Hello- I came off the injection about months ago, and went straight onto the mini pill. I came off the pill about 3 weeks ago and have no idea about my cycle! I started bleeding 4 days ago- but havnt had a period for 7 years de to being on the injection, how do I know when I'm
Most fertile?

That's supposed to be 6 months * (coming off the injection)

The depo injection can do horrible things to your fertility, I'm in roughly the same position as you except I only had three sets of injections,

you can get ovulation predictor kits to see if you're actually ovulating, but assuming a cycle of 28 days you'd be mos fertile in the second week, ovulating at the end of that second week, that is quite a generalisation though, I'd make sure you're keeping a good record of when your periods are coming now you're off contraception, and see what comes of that.

Also, I've started taking evening primrose oil and Angus castes in the first 10 days of my cycle to see if that helps to regulate my cycle, (I'm only taking it for the first 10 days because I read somewhere that they might inhibit your chance of implantation if you take them past the point of ovulation, so figured it was better to be safe than sorry) it was advised by a Heavily pregnant holland and Barrett employee who said she'd used them herself

Thanks littleluna for your reply. I have got some ovulation tests but have absolutely no idea when to do them. I'm not used to periods :-/ 25 years old and i have no idea what I'm doing. Embarrassing!

The depo injection can take up to a year to get out of your system, longer for some people.

Ive been off the depo for 2 years and ttc 15 months and nothing so far.

Blood tests show im not ovulating.

littleluna89 · 17/06/2014 16:45

blue how long were you on depo for?

xBlueberry88x · 17/06/2014 16:47

10 years... period came back after 6-8 months im 25 by the way

I was on depo for two years and it took over two years to get my period back, I also ended up needing fertility treatment. I may have needed it anyway but I can't help blaming the depo. When they still hadn't come back at two years the dr gave me something, I can't remember what to restart them.

It couldn't hurt to talk it through with your Gp.

It took me 18 months after coming off the Depo injection for me to start ovulating, I was told it can take anything up to two years for the effects to wear off, it all depends how long you were having the Depo for though too as it builds up in the system.

Memphisbelly · 17/06/2014 16:51

Forgot to add I was on the Depo for 4 years

Depo does take ages to come out of your system, but it will do eventually!

When I was TTC DC1 my injection ran out at the end of April and I found out I was pregnant in early Dec without every getting a regular cycle back.

I went back on Depo as it suits me, but changed to a non-hormonal coil about a year before TTC DC2. When I had it removed I didn't even get a period as I was pregnant in less than 2 weeks!

Came off Depo this time in March and I've not had a period yet - just waiting for them to come back (not TTC this time, DH has had the snip!).

Try not to worry about it, make a note of when your periods are and see if you fall into a pattern, but you might not need to have a regular cycle to get pregnant.

Good luck!

I was on depo for a year, took 15 months to conceive dc2. My cycle was pretty random even before that though.

It could have just been coincidence but I started taking angus castus after about a year, seemed to conceive quite quickly after that. Worth a try?

No one seems to tell you about problems with fertility following depo; I certainly wouldn't have used it had I known!
