Hi. I am just at the early stages of ttc. Have been on the pill for about 15 years and my cycle is irregular. I am considering buying a fertility monitor. Just wondered if anyone knows which is the best? First Response or Clearblue? Both are the same price: £99. Any ideas much appreciated. Thanks!

hi Janetking

i have just started using the first response one my af arrived on saturday so not used it much but after some hefty reading
i think i have got the hang of it although only 3 buttons means alot of faffing about.

it seems to take ages to take my temp(or just me impatient) but i couldnt seem to get it to read my temp at all today i dont know if i was trying to take it too early (as it has an alarm set to wake u at same time everyday) or whether i was doing wrong but was bleeping at the end and showing a reading but wasnt storing it

so not sure if i am a good person to ask but my experience of using it all be it for 3 days is not good considreing muddling through a few more days but if it wont take temp again i will be returning it

i have to say this is the second one i will be returning as the first ones battery was dead but i tend to have very bad luck with anything electrical let me know what you decide i would be inetrested to here anyone else advice also

cant give you any info on clearblue as not had one, but is this the one you have to buy extra test sticks for or is it a tempreture type?

Hi Mad4girls. Thanks for your feedback on First Response. I think the clearblue one uses test sticks, which would be more hassle and expense. Has anyone else used either of these? Thanks.

If your cycle is irregular it is frankly a waste of time using such things. Irregular periods can be caused by hormonal imbalances. Such kits can read the amount of excess LH (luteinising hormone) hormone and thus giving a false positive result. A blood test can be done to assess your hormone levels. If you have a blood test done ensure that your LH and FSH (follicles stimulation hormone) levels are compared. These two should be the same; an imbalance of LH to FSH can be indicative of hormonal problems.

Thanks Meerkat. Will have to get a blood test done at doctors.
