I'm in a bit of a dilemma, so hoping for some help and advice Smile

I have PCOS and have been told I need to loose weight and then I will be put onto clomid, this will be happening soon . I do not ovulate and my periods are stupidly irregular (can be months and months apart)

I have done opks a few times in the past and have never even got a faint line on them.

Just recently I decided to have a go on them again and every day for over 2 weeks I've had a faint line (i know this isn't a positive result). But this last week or so I've been feeling sick, bloated and sore boobs, constant. Headache etc. We last dtd 2.5 weeks ago as I'm going to be taking a tablet to bring on a period soon so wanted to be sure I wasn't pg, so decided to take a pg test today and it was BFN but just did an opk and it's almost as dark as the test line for the first time ever!!

So do we try now incase I'm ovulating, or wait and see if it gets darker or leave it to start the tablet to bring on a period??

I have no idea what to do Confused

Thanks for reading Smile

Its a hard one weethree i have pcos too & heard so many people say not to use opks if you have pcos as we always have a lh surge???
If this is the first time you have ever had a pos opk then it could be poss you are ov.
Do you have any dc etc, or had any last few days?
Xx

Thanks 1more, I didn't know that about using the opks if you have PCOS, now I'm even more confused!

No haven't noticed anything different

Dtd dtd!! You might be about to have a natural period in a couple of weeks why lose out on this opportunity! Is it norethisterone you have been given?

Weethree · 13/06/2014 16:01

Yes I guess your right wood, shouldn't miss the opportunity but will need to wait weeks again before getting started on the clomid.

I think it is provera??

It is swings and roundabouts really obviously natural is the ideal situation and the clomid side effects arent great. But I can understand why you would rather take the meds

Weethree · 13/06/2014 16:46

This is the thing, i only conceived with clomid before because it was quite apparent that there was absolutely nothing going on naturally and it's better for me because I have actual normal cycles so can see if I'm late etc. But on the other hand natural would be much better, and yes the clomid was horrid!

I just can't imagine that I am ovulating with no help

Pregnancy can help clear up pcos so if you have already conceived it is possible!! X

Weethree · 13/06/2014 18:35

They have only just recently discovered I have it, even though I've had children already and millions of scans etc.

The specialist was not impressed!

No I dont think I would be either!! Go for the meds! I had loads of times where I didnt know what to do with my medication and im being too vague for you!! Take it!

AttilaTheMeerkat · 13/06/2014 18:47

I bet the specialist was not impressed.

Would ditch the OPKs; these are a waste of money when PCOS is an issue. Think the manufacturers of such things actually advise not to use them anyway if PCOS is present. These kits work on two misleading principles; namely that a rise in LH is immediately followed by ovulation and that there is only one rise in LH every month. Both of these are simply untrue.

If your periods are currently months apart it is highly likely that you are not ovulating at all currently.

Clomid encourages the ovaries to work harder and is often the first line of treatment given. However, it should be given with a degree of caution to women who have PCOS mainly because of clomid resistance (so no amount of clomid will work) and because it can also affect hormone levels markedly. Its quite powerful stuff and you should be monitored whilst on it. Do not accept no monitoring, you should be monitored every cycle.

PCOS can return regardless of pregnancy; no one therapy or treatment completely eradicates the cystic follicles associated with this condition.

Some PCOSers find following a low GI/GL eating plan helpful re weight loss. This can be more sustainable to use in the longer term as well.

Try now! Apparently you need to have sex the day after and day after that after a positive opk ! Lots of luck op xxx

Weethree · 13/06/2014 21:49

Thanks Attila, that's great information.

Maybe I will ditch the opks then? Clomid worked last time but i didn't seem to have the symptoms (or weight) I do now so I'm hoping it will work this time too, although the doc won't give it to me until I've lost a certain amount of weight. I'm gutted cos I have tried so hard and it's not coming off even though I'm following her advice to the letter Hmm

I need the meds for my own well-being too I think, I can't cope with all the not having a clue where I am in a cycle, atleast if you know when AF is due you have something to work with. The amount of POASing I do and symptom spotting is simply not healthy!! Grin
