Recurrent chemical pregnancies

Dear all,

I've just had second consecutive chemical pregnancy and am very much hoping to get a GP appointment today. I just wondered if there are any tests I should ask for? I know I'm going to get emotional so any advice on what to say or expect would be very much appreciated.

About me: 37, TTC #1 got BFP after first month of TRYING (hard), got excited, thought it was first time I had ever done something first time, and then got deflated. Repeat.

This is my first post. I have been lurking.

Hi Kolly, I'm not an expert, I am ttc DC#2 for 6 months and had a mc in January so have spent a little bit of time looking at this and one thing I've found (only from the internet mind!) is that it could be low progesterone which (according to the internet!) can be treated.

Good luck and I hope the GP can offer you some reassurance.

Many thanks for your message, Possum. That sounds like a good theory seeing as I have always suffered with hormonal skin flare up ( but GP would never test for PCOS).
Anyway, am currently waiting for GP to call. All today's appts were taken by the time I got through to surgery. My docs get sold out quicker than Glastonbury tickets.

Much luck to you too!

And very sorry to hear about your own mc. Hope you get the right result soon.

Baby aspirin! Ask for blood tests for thrombophilia, low blood protein and thyroid. Thrombophilia and low blood proteins are the most common cause for recurrent chemical pregnancy/ early miscarriage. The same happened to me last month, had my second early miscarriage in 5 month at 5 weeks. I know how much the second one can mess with your head and make you doubt yourself. Good luck, and remember, there might be nothing wrong at all, you've might just have had really bad luck.

Thanks for info, monkey. It's helpful to have some questions to ask doc. I finally got an appt for Friday morning.
Sorry to hear of your own second mc. Did you seek medical advice?

Yes and that's when (luckily) my doctor send me for blood tests for the things I listed. I'm just glad she did and I didn't have to wait for it to happen a third time before they did anything. My doctor is pretty awesome from that aspect. They found it was a possible low blood protein and I've been referred to a Gynae for a second opinion. It would just mean taking baby aspirin during pregnancy if it is what my doctor thinks it is.

hooray for good doctors. Thanks so much for sharing your experience. I'm glad they are investigating - it gives me hope. Good luck and I'd be interested to hear how you get on.

Poor you. The same thing happened to me, 2 early losses before 6 weeks.
Statistically it is likely to just be bad luck however I had all the tests done to rule this out (privately as I had only had 2 and my GP would not refer me) I went to St marys and saw Raj Rai who was great.
I also had PCOS and spotting before AF and lots of other symptoms connected to low progesterone.
I also had a thrombolia screen which highlighted a problem.
I took vit B100 for a few months to help with with egg quality and low progesterone and was prescribed progesterone suppositories and heparin injections from BFP and my DD is now 19 months old :)

Congratulations! Thanks so much for sharing your story. It is good to know that if it is something, it is potentially fixable. I'd like to get specialist advice now so thanks for the recommendation. Certainly don't want to go through this cycle again! Many thanks.

PLEAE DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING UNTIL YOU HAVE SPOKEN TO A PROFESSIONAL!

I am currently going through my sixth consecutive (bar month off in February, as advised by professional) chemical pregnancy. I started to spot yesterday.

The month I fell with my third I was taking baby aspirin off my own back and I got a right telling off a you can actually cause problems by taking it, not only for yourself but potentially for the baby, so please do not do this unless you have spoken to someone.

I have had enough now and I just want answers!
I've had every blood test going, have been taking progesterone for the last 3 months that I've caught and it still hasn't worked. I have a ds who is 2.10 years who I fell on month 3 and totally fine.

I've been seeing Prof Quenby in Coventry, and she wanted me on cyclogest progesterone for 3 months after the first 3, and again I've caught every month. The last one I even saw the sac and yolk while bleeding but still nothing developed further.

The gutting thing is, the first one would've been due in 5 weeks, just before my ds' 3rd birthday, the gap is just getting bigger and bigger.

I wish you every success, I hope your get some answers soon xx

I had 4 chemical pregnancies that I'm aware of (theatre could have been more, I just didn't test). For me the problem was low Progesterone and therefore a short luteal phase caused by weak ovulation. I took Clomid which worked first time and I now have an 8 month old DS. Do you chart? This helped me detect my problem.

Choccywoccydodah · 14/06/2014 23:18

Chart as in temps?
The only thing I track is ov.
My progesterone wasn't low as such but i was spotting around 7 dpo on the months I wasn't catching (the first 2 months of trying, then feb), hence I was put on progesterone.

What exactly does Clomid do? Were you prescribed it?

Tryintryin · 25/09/2019 01:37

Just putting this out there for people looking for possible answers: After over ten chemical pregnancies, Clomid + a second HcG shot for pregnancy support + progesterone worked for me. It was adding the second HcG (ovidrel) shot at 5 days after the trigger shot that did the trick. Good luck ladies!
