Hi I'm new to mumsnet and hope I can find some advice about fertility clinics in the midlands. I'm 40 and TTC without luck so far....time is ticking so need to get on with private clinic options as I'm too old for NHS help. Local GP not much help....thanks in advance for any advice :-)

Nurture and Care in Nottingham have good reputations.

Hi

You have two options, Midands Fertility Services in Aldrige, who are considered to be one of best in country. www.midlandfertility.com

You can also use the Fertility services and pay for it at Birmingham Women's Hospital.

Both are excellent

Thanks both...I'm just starting out on what feels like potentially a long and uncertain journey...

Why not see which clinics are easy for you to access and see if they have a free open evening so you can see them, ask all your questions etc.

Do you know if you or your partner have a fertility issue, if so it is worth seeing which clinic does any specific treatments. The recommendation is if ttc for more than 6 months at your age to a dh's for initial tests. However gp and NHS basic tests can delay things by a significant time. A gp should run basic blood tests, order a semen analysis for dh and then get a repeat semen analysis about 3 months later. Usually only then do they refer to an NHS clinic which can have a waiting list of up to 18 weeks. Not much more a gp can do I am afraid unless you prepared to wait about another 6 months for basic NHS tests at the hospital. It took 13 months from first visit to gp to getting a diagnosis from NHS for us that we needed ICSI! Now I wish I had gone private straight away.

Good luck .

Thanks so much...we're only a few months in but as you said waiting for the NHS could take a long time and we would have to go private for treatment anyway...so we're booked in for our first open evening next week :-) I really hope your ICSI is successful for you :-)
