Fertility treatment

Please could someone give me done advice. I'm 43 and starting this process very late, which is a worry all on its own, but I'm also going the donor route with a dear old friend. I couldn't bear the anonymity and coldness of a donor clinic. I'm under no illusions that getting pregnant naturally won't be easy. So my question - can I buy fertility drugs over the Internet, do I need a GPs prescription or can I do it by myself and discreetly. I have a family doctor and my Father would disapprove in a) my donor route choice and b) the fact I will be largely a single mum. I have a solid career and financial security. I'm very new to this, I'd really appreciate any advice in what drugs to order and whether I need to get a prescription. I'm kinda sure I will but I'd welcome some clarity. Thank you! :)

Please don't buy drugs from the internet. Go to the doctors and get the prescription.

Also, you are 43, does it matter if your father disapproves? I'm 23, and don't take note of everything my dad disapproves of.

Ha, I know. I need to cut the apron strings. So you can get them from the doc? I assume the come with a private prescription price tag. I have discussed it with my doctor but he isn't that supportive for reasons that are now long gone. I made up the bit about my father being at the same surgery. He would still massively disapprove and even said 'if you have a child out of wedlock, I would never forgive you'. Jeeze. I think he is trapped in a Victorian time walk. My docs not that keen because of an ever so trendy bi-polar diagnosis. Mild but there nonetheless. Trouble is he's thinking of the old me. I'm now stable, got the right meds and its not a big deal. I wouldn't be able to hold down the job if I do if I was that bad. So that's why I didn't tell the real reason, I'm worried I won't get support from my doctor but then it was a few years ago when I broached it. Maybe I should go back, healthy and well, and ask again?

Sorry, forgot to say thanks for writing back! If my doc doesn't support me then I do have to think twice. I've been well for years. An I being selfish having a kid when I have had a 'mental health challenge'. There's still a big stigma but I quite like my quirky ways and they haven't held me back. I would feel bad for my kid if they inherited my condition. I'm a very happy soul. But enough over-sharing, to the docs and then some soul searching of he says no.

Hi Corgi

You're not alone in being 40+ and wanting a baby, in fact there's a whole thread on here for 40+ women ttc, they're really supportive and totally non judgemental and have lots of good advice. Like the other poster I would really recommend you go to a fertility clinic and discuss your options. Unfortunately being over 40 might make it more difficult but then again you might be one of the lucky ones and conceive easily, it does happen :) You can either find a clinic yourself or ask for a referral via your GP and there's always the option of going abroad, I've read many posts on here that say it's a lot cheaper. Have a look on the fertility thread on this site under the conception heading. You really do need to make sure you're using a reputable clinic and get the treatment/help/drugs you need rather than just buying off the internet. I'd also recommend you have a few routine tests done e.g. day 3 and 21 bloods. Good luck!

Hi the drugs you need for a donor egg/sperm cycle are not drugs a gp can prescribe. You will need to get referred ( think can self refer) to a private fertility clinic to get a private prescription for fertility drugs.
