Second miscarriage in four months, what tests should I be asking for?

History is I conceived easily and had a very straightforward pregnancy with my son at the age of 37.

I bf him for one year, conceived two months after I ceased bfing and then miscarried at 6 weeks naturally. On my third cycle after mc I had a chemical which somehow continued for another two weeks with very low numbers (went from 66 to 108) I have started bleeding tonight so I assume I will have another period like bleed two weeks early and then I suspect my hpts will start to read negative afterwards.

So my GP is less than interested. I think because I'm 39 and already have a child, they think I should be satisfied with one, at least that's the jist of our conversations. So I was going to go back and see if he would refer me to my local Spire hospital for a 21 day Progesterone test.

Should I be investigating any other tests do you think at this stage? I am on the beds/combs border so if anyone wants to recommend anyone to go and see I'm all ears.

Thank you xxx

Sorry you have gone through this.

We had 4 mc s and no successful pregnancies, 2 years of trying before the GP would refer us.

We had success with Dr Gorgy in Wimpole Street eventually (after 7 yrs and 6 losses we had twins)

Best of luck. Perhaps you have just been unlucky the last couple of times.

Hi sorry about your miscarriages. It would be worth you posting on the miscarriage thread (under body and soul section), as there are plenty of ladies there with heaps of advice.

Personally I don't think that the 21 day progesterone test is necessarily going to help you. The day 21 test is to check for ovulation, and clearly you are ovulating. It is unlikely that the miscarriages are as a result of low progesterone.

Unfortunately as we get older, miscarriages are much more common, due to chromosomal issues as the quality of the egg/sperm are poorer.

My recommendation would be to possibly check for NKCells, endometrial ideally. Check for clotting issues, possibly TEG test? Check your thyroid levels too. As these issues can develop later in life, and can cause miscarriage.

You won't get many tests on the NHS as their cut-off is three miscarriages. Statistically, if you were younger, your chances of everything being ok next pregnancy are fairly good. However with being slightly older, the risk of more miscarriages is slightly higher. The routine recurrent miscarriage tests including checking for possible genetic issues between you and your partner, are worth asking for if your gp will do them without going through a third miscarriage.

I hope things resolve quickly for you and you get your babe in arms soon.

Willitbe it's interesting that you say you doubt the miscarriages would be due to low progesterone. I think because my LP is on the low side at 12 days I though it certainly could be that. I agree that it could just be my age.
