PCOS Advice Share

Hi Ladies

I saw a specialist yesterday and wanted to share the advice she gave me.
Been on dianette for 17 years for PCOS, stopped Feb 14.

The Dr reckons the dianette had stopped the cysts forming and that as I have each cycle the cysts and therefore symptoms would get worse. So going back on dianette.

Advice from Dr
To start trying to conceive straight after coming off pill, no waiting.
If not successful within 3 cycles to go on clomid and possibly metformin.
May need to go back on pill to reduce cysts and then try cycle again.

Insulin Regulation
Need to start low GI diet. Reduce sugar intake.
Should also do 5/2 fasting diet as improves insulin production and sensitivity.
Regular exercise in morning to improve release of insulin like growth factor.

Does anyone else have any advice to share?

Commenting as I'd be really interested in hearing advice too...

Just re-started the 5/2 diet this week. It really worked first time round for me, so after reading this I will definitely keep it up! Smile

I'm going to follow this thread closely. I have PCOS (although my periods are regular after I've lost a shed load of weight).
I already exercise 3 times a week but didn't know about the low GI diet. It doesn't cost anything to try!
Fingers crossed it works for us ladies!

I highly recommend Inositol (Google Inositol and PCOS) I have recently just had my second bfp after using this for a month and a half.. This was post late misscarriage of my first bfp.. I took 3x650mg tablets daily. I also have a friend who has recently just had her first baby after using it! I dourced it from america but found it on piritons pride uk website recently.

Thanks, fingers crossed for you. I've just ordered 1000mg Inositol from Puritan's Pride. 12% cash back through www.quidco.com.

Found this very interesting info on it.

examine.com/supplements/Inositol/

"Supplementation of inositol in the range of 200-4,000mg daily appears to be effective in improving fertility in women with PCOS, while doses in the 2,000-4,000mg range appear effective in improving testosterone levels and insulin sensitivity."

Hope it helps you too :)

Rufus200 · 13/05/2014 11:26

Just received a letter from customs. My order for inositol from puritan's pride cost £15.45 but customs want £12.44 to release the order or they will send it back! £4.44 in VAT and £8.00 in commission! Absolute rip off! Just be aware anyone who orders from them!

OP posts:
MrsChocolateCupcake · 13/05/2014 12:23

Did you not order it from the UK site?

Rufus200 · 13/05/2014 18:02

Yes, used .co.uk and the order was in £s

MrsChocolateCupcake · 13/05/2014 18:33

Oh I am really sorry :( I know I paid it cause I got it from the US but didnt realise they just used a uk site :( I feel really bad sorry!

Rufus200 · 13/05/2014 18:39

Oh no it is not your fault at all! They are just sneaky!

MrsChocolateCupcake · 13/05/2014 21:02

Yes they are! :) I do hope it helps if you decide to proceed with it :) I would also contact them to see if you can get a refund too!

The paleo diet worked for me. Helped me loss 10% of my body weight which helped boost my fertility and tried to time that with clomid. Helps with other symptoms. Although it's strict and probably not suitable long term Grin

Liquoriceallsort · 14/05/2014 07:18

Just sticking my nose in but you never have to pay the admin charge, google it and there is a letter (google Fedex admin charge), I order stuff for work weekly and never pay it as I argue it every time. If you have already paid it, ask for a refund.

Rufus200 · 14/05/2014 16:55

Thanks Liquoriceallsort but it isn't fedex charging commission, it is customs! Then will be delivered via DHL.

Liquoriceallsort · 14/05/2014 17:33

Really?! Who asked you for the money? It annoys me that they are so expensive!

Rufus200 · 14/05/2014 17:42

CCL, customs clearance

OP posts:
Rufus200 · 14/05/2014 17:59

Just found out that only orders over £15.00 are subject to charge! So because £0.45 over had to pay £12.44 extra.

OP posts:
Liquoriceallsort · 15/05/2014 07:34

That isn't customs, that is just a company, that charge will not go to the government. I would argue it. You did not ask them to clear your parcel, therefore I personally wouldn't pay it.

Rufus200 · 20/05/2014 21:01

Order has arrived, so just started taking inositol, fingers crossed it helps my symptoms.

I have emailed CCL about the charge but they are ignoring me so far.

I got a 15% off voucher code for Puritan's Pride if anyone wants to use it, just make sure your order is under £15 to avoid customs! UKV15

Hi, I have severe PCO and ended up needing IVF (although most people with PCO do conceive on tablets if they can't naturally - so don't worry!)
I went on metformin for insulin resistance but it did nothing - every PCOS case is different. I would not spend any (more) money on ordering pills - in fact when I did get pregnant I did not change my diet at all (apart from no alcohol and caffeine). I am slim though.
The Pill will stop the cysts forming. I took it before IVF and they were not so visible on the ultrasounds as normal.
Clomid made me ovulate but I didn't get pregnant - works for many others though.
