What should I expect from my GP?

Hello, just looking for a bit of advice so that I can be prepared when I see my GP about my failure to get pregnant so far.

Background. I'm 36. Ttc #1. Was on depo provera for 7 - 8 years. Had no periods in that time and got on very well with it.

Last jab sept 2012. So was due a top up early December.

AF didn't arrive so went to GP who did some blood tests which were 'normal'. Not sure what was tested for - they weren't on a specific day.

AF finally arrive June 2013.

I have had very regular cycles of 25 days since then. The odd 24 day cycle.

So, 12 cycles on I am still not pregnant so will be camping out at the surgery to make sure they give me an appointment!!

Just want to know what to expect/demand!

Hi Nottalotta,

Ask your GP for day 3 blood test which will test your FSH/LH levels, day 21 progesterone blood test which will tell you if you ovulated and your progesterone level is high enough to sustain a pregnancy (it's called day 21 but has to be done 7 days before your period is due). Also ask for your thyroid level to be checked. These are initial tests, after this round the next steps would be a HSG test where dye is inserted and you are scanned to check for blocked fallopian tubes.

Come and join the Old Birds thread for the over 35's, we're a supportive bunch!

Good luck with your tests!

"AF didn't arrive so went to GP who did some blood tests which were 'normal'. Not sure what was tested for - they weren't on a specific day".

That was a wasted effort; such blood tests should be done on specific days during the cycle. You need the blood tests the other respondent has stated.

Depo may be behind your problems to conceive now. Also your man should be tested in conjunction with your own tests being done; subfertility is not the sole preserve of the woman.

I wasn't sure if there were other more general things to test for Attila
