Hello, i'm very new to this kind of thing and not sure what to expect but me and my partner have decided to try for baby number 1, i've recently come off the pill and was wondering whether anyone could share any tips for preparing for pregnancy etc and any theories that people may have. i quit smoking 4 months again so feel that's a start but if anyone has any advice, things to look out for i'd be grateful x

have you started folic acid tablets? - advised to start them 3 months before starting to conceive. Have sex?

Leave it a couple of months so you know how long your cycle is naturally. Work out when you're ovulating by counting back 14 days from the start of your period. I read somewhere that sperm can survive on their journey to find an egg for 5 days, but the egg is only viable for a couple of days at most. So get the sperm in before you think you might ovulate! Most important thing is to keep note of your period dates to tell midwife to work out due date. Good luck!

Folic acid, vitamin C and vitamin D if you can, otherwise just folic acid for now (but vitamin D is pretty vital during pregnancy). Stop taking multi-vitamins with Vitamin A.

It only took us 3 months and the month I fell was the month I used OPKs (amazon cheapies) so I'd recommend them. Otherwise, eat well, cut down alcohol and relax. Grin

Just relax and have sex every other day. Too much sex can be draining and not leave enough time for him to "recharge" properly and too little can affect the quality of the sperm as it can deteriorate. That's what i read anyway and i got pregnant straight away. I was also drinking a lot of red wine when my dd was conceived and started taking folic acid after confirming my pregnancy. Don't stress too much about doing everything to the book and just enjoy the experience of trying.
