Has anyone totally cut out caffeine, sugar etc or consciously tried to eat more of a certain food?

We have been ttc for nearly a year now and no success :( so I want to see if there are changes I can make.

Currently ttc baby number 2 and as well as cleaning up my diet in general I've also really cut down on meat - trying to have it only once a week or less if I can.

It took us 7 years to get pregnant with our DD and about 2 months before getting our bfp I had given up meat completely. I got a book called The Fertility Diet and this is one of the things she recommends. As we'd been eating healthy already and cut out caffeine and alcohol, I think it was cutting out meat that tipped the balance for us - but who knows!

It's worth a try if you've being ttc for a while and the book is very good for lots of tips and advice.

The book is by Sarah Dobbyn. Also I did up my intake of sweet potatoes (I'd forgotten). Apparently them and yams are good fertility boosters! Again worth a shot!

Best of luck. Don't lose faith.

I've just generally tried to make better choices. Less chocolate and biscuits! (Tried cutting out sugary snacks altogether but never going to happen) Making sure I always eat my 5 aday. Last month was the 6 month mark for us so I gave up caffeine. Surprisingly not really missed it. Time will tell if it has any effect!

Also, I've heard (from fertility consultants) that women ttc should be on a higher protein diet- chicken, eggs etc. So giving up meat probably isn't in your best interests.

There are plenty of excellent vegetarian sources of protein like beans, chickpeas, lentils etc. So giving up meat is still an option if it's something you'd like to try. Cutting down on meat is great for general health anyway even if not ttc.

Thanks all!

Birdie, ha! I was pescetarian for the first 9 mos of ttc and had oily fish a few times a week but no meat. Hadn't had meat for 2 years. Started eating meat again about 10 weeks ago precisely to up protein and improve chances!

May have to rethink that! I will try the book. Thanks!

Went on a low GL diet, cut out sugar, ate loads of cabbage, broccoli, onions, because a nutritionist advised that the brassica family of vegetables might help my pcos.

Conceived about three months after switching after two years of trying and two miscarriages. Also lost five pounds and wasn't hungry!
