What day is CD1??????

I know that sounds a dumb question seeing as I have been ttc for quite a while now, but I had a really weirdy start to AF this month - all protracted over 3 days, so don't know which CD to say I am on now.
On Sunday (AF due) I had a tiny spot in the morning when I woke up then a tiny spot at night when I went to bed. Yesterday I had another spot in the morning then more spotting throughout the day which was very gradually increasing, despite having cramps all day. Come the evening I was using a thin panty liner and cramping worse than I have since having dd, but 'flow' was now only what can be described as light.
This morning, 2 days after the first spotting, AF arrived full force.
Which day do I count as CD1? This has never happened to me before, it is usually so much more straight forward.

TIA

cd1 is first day of period.

Nemo1977 · 15/08/2006 10:27

so take it from first day spotting

LittlePolly · 15/08/2006 11:10

rubles, this is not really any help, but that is exactly what has happened with my three AFs since my mc. They have all started off with spotting for a couple of days and then gradually got heavier, whereas they used to just arrive really heavy. I have actually been counting CD1 from first day of full flow, but now, like you, wonder whether that's right.
Sorry your AF arrived, btw.

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/08/2006 11:16

First day of full flow, in which you need to use sanitary protection, is day 1.

Piffle · 15/08/2006 11:17

not spotting I was told from when you first need to use a liner etc

Cranberry · 15/08/2006 11:23

It's interesting that you mention this as I get exactly the same thing and always count cd1 as first day of full flow. I always think of the spotting as "it's on it's way" It started about 6 months ago on and off, I'm just putting it down to an age thing

rubles · 15/08/2006 11:30

Why Cranberry? How old are you? You're getting me worried.

I'm 35. My dh and I have sort of been ttc for a few months and nothing yet. I fell first time with ds ( I was 30 )and twice before in my late 20's on cd10 accidently. I always thought I new my cycle really well an cannot believe that I haven't fallen now. My Aunty had an early menoupause at 38 as did her Aunty at 35 and I'm really starting to worry I might have left no2 too late My friend is just about to have her 4th at 38 and said it took her much longer to fall as she got older.

I've just got the Toni Weschler book so I can start to understnad my body and these changes a bit more. I'm hoping it will help

rubles · 15/08/2006 11:57

I'm 35 too Cranberry. Does the book say anything about the onset of AF or changes to AF?

OP posts:
Cranberry · 15/08/2006 12:07

The book only arrived yesterday and is very thick so I haven't got that far yet. I'll have a flick through tonight and see what I can find. I think I'm starting to worry because of all the articles that say "once you hit 35 everything changes". It seems to be a big news topic at the moment.

rubles · 15/08/2006 12:12

Oh tell me about it Cranberry. The magic number 35...it's made out like something clicks in our bodies on our 35th birthday and everything starts going wrong from then on. So we have to get pregnant by the time we are 34 and 11 months or that's it. We're buggered.

It doesn't help us relax about it does it?

OP posts:
Cranberry · 15/08/2006 12:18

And that's half the problem. You can't relax because you feel everything is ticking. I'm sure some of my problem is psychological. When when we tried for ds I didn't think for once moment I wouldn't fall the first month and sure enough I fell first time. Before we even starting ttc this time I'd already started to convince myself that I'd left it too late and as soon as I didn't fall the first time the worry sets in. O the joys of getting old ;-)

rubles · 15/08/2006 12:23

I know. And then you worry that you are worried.

I've got to go to work now so I'll check back in later once I've had a look at the 'magic' book!

jamiesam · 15/08/2006 12:31

I got pg with ds2 when I was 35! Then took a long time to get pg (and hold on to - early m/c) with no 3 - well, long time for me. Am now 38, and 30 weeks pg. My sister had an early menopause and I worried about me following the same pattern but it's not happened yet...

Cranberry · 16/08/2006 10:41

Hi rubles - so I've done some reading and basically if it's only a few days before AF starts don't think it's anything to worry about and if like me you don't get it every month hink it's fine. CD1 is definately day if first full flow. If you get pre-menstraul spotting every month and it lasts longer than a few days it could indicate a short luteal phase which may need some intervention. Sounds like your a bit like me so don't worry.
Hope this helps

rubles · 16/08/2006 11:11

Oh bless you Cranberry. Thanks.
