a question about sperm

a tad embarrassed about this one (may well have been asked before though) can someone tell me how long the sperm lives for inside the womb?

OP posts:

I think sperm only lives inside the body for day or 2 (I think one sex of sperm lives longer than the others, hence all those old wives techniques of how to conceive a particular sex). Why do you ask ?

YIf you are worried about an unwanted pregnancy, you can get the morning after pill, it is effective up to 72hrs after unprotected sex.

IF, not Yif

I belive sperm doesn't survive that long in the vagina but, if it successfully travels into your cervix, then it can survive for several days (hence why, if trying to conceive, it can help to elevate your bottom and let it dribble in!).

littlefrog · 14/08/2006 17:03

I think it's more like 5 days, but can be 7 in some circumstances (apparently).

DollyP · 14/08/2006 17:31

I think there are MN here who conceived 7 days after BD! If conception is not what you were planning, you can have an IUD inserted up to 5 days after unprotected sex.

Good luck

5-7 days, it decreases with age.
But survival depends on it meeting the "right conditions" inside your body. Fertile cervical fluid and all that malarkey

Umm, I have a dumb question.

So, if spearm can survive inside you for that long, what happens when you have a bath? Dosnt it all get washed out or something?

okay so....

(I feel like a bloody school girl but hey ho)

But if the cervix is closed then how does the sperm get in and not the water. I know sperm is much smaller and kinda gets fired up there, but surely water can fit through the tiniest of spaces too?

Don't think the water goes up there in the bath. Think you would have to force it up there, e.g. douching.

Just to be safe though, the answer might be no bathing until post-ov. Can you imaging, "What;s that smell?"

"Only me, I'm TTC."

DollyP · 14/08/2006 17:52

Your fanjo basically remains closed in water so you don't flood internally. Sperm are deposited near the top of the fanjo so can swim through the gap.

HTH.

LOL Thanks

Was just one of those wierd things you sometimes wonder about when sitting in the bath.....
