Day 2 and day 21 in/fertility tests?

Since coming off the pill I have had in order, cycles of 26, 50, 18, 28 and now 17 days.

I went to the docs as I was concerned that my irregular periods were linked to something (possibly pcos) which had been covered up by the pill. I appreciate that even for those with regular cycles it can take months, so didn't want to be trying and trying if there was a solution to up my chances.

She gave me the forms to go for day 3 and day 21 tests, but said that day 21 tests are more like '7 days before AF' tests, so pretty much useless with a cycle like mine!

So, AF arrives today (17 day cycle), will I be able to get a blood test on Sunday? Will they be open? Or will Monday be ok?

Has anyone had the issue with day 21 test and irregular cycles? Two out of five cycles I haven't even had a day 21! And predicting what day is 7 days before my next period is nigh on impossible!

Have had this problem re blood tests and irregular cycles myself (and in my case the diagnosis was PCOS).

In such circumstances you are better off having the blood tests done according to calendar days i.e the 2nd and 21st of the month and having these repeated. Having it done on those calendar days will pick up any hormonal imbalances that are present.

GP should also arrange for you to have an internal ultrasound scan done as well as referring you to a subfertility unit asap as it can take some months for an appointment to arrive.

Thanks Attila, I feel like you're my guru now! The GP (family planning specialist) told me to relax and enjoy trying, she'd give me the forms for the blood tests if I wanted but not to worry yet. If it's pcos, I want to know now, not after another 6 months of trying. I'll ask at the hospital about the regular date testing.
