Can anyone recommend a good fertility clinic in London or the South?

My ob/gyn is not taking us seriously and I want to find another one. He is the only one here in Bournemouth but I dont mind travelling to see someone good. Does anyone know of a reputable clinic that I might try?

Kizzie, it's just struck me that we must have been at the Lister at about the same time. Do you remember when your ET was?
bunny2- the name of my consultant was Tunde Ogunyemi, but everyone there seems to work very much as a team under the 'main man' Hossam Abdulla. As Kizzie says, they were all very kind and positive.

Bunny2 can I just add a quick note here. Even though you will have to go private, it may be a good idea to go to a clinic sited inside an NHS hospital. If you do end up going the IVF route and anything goes horribly wrong (it did for me in two out of four procedures) they can then just plonk you onto the NHS Obgyn ward or call up the NHS obgyn to help. It was actually a matter of life or death for me, and I'm SO glad I was in an NHS linked clinic. Its sometimes hard to move clinics once you've had the investigations with one group, so it might be best to start the whole thing in an NHS clinic. If I had been in a private clinic I would have had to pay for hospitalization for a week, a general anaesthetic and surgery, and would have had to transfer at least once to an NHS hospital - presumably by ambulance as an emergency case. Just a thought. Hope it helps.

We used the Oxford Fertility Unit, which is private, but inside the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, a big NHS teaching hospital. Most of the clinical staff there are also members of the University Medical Faculty. They are very good indeed, medically and in terms of how they behave towards their patients.

Oldiemum - had a similar visit when I was on the maternity ward at my hospital. The consultant who "did" the procedure met me carrying DD up the hall and stopped - but wasn't sure whether to ask the question. So I just smiled and said, "Yes, here's one you did earlier". Must have given the nurses a laugh, as they'd clearly seen DH only moments earlier!

Another vote for the Lister here, though would be a pain from Bournemouth. They do all the routine tests as well if you want (for a fee). They tend to recommened that you start off with NHs though to keep total costs down.
Tunde did my first EC, and one of my ETs. Marie Wren was my consultant, though as they all rotate round you land up seeing most of them at some point (at least after 4 cycles!).

Havne't been on here for a while, but I would recommend the Hammersmith Hospital's clinic - they have both NHS and private facilities. We had to go private because of my age but I thought they were very good for both investigations and IVF. Docs are Robert Winston, Raul Margara and Geoffrey Trew. I saw the latter and he was a sweetie. Friendly, straightforward, non-patronising bloke, (and for a consultant that's VERY unusual!) Best of luck.

no experience myself, but good friend has had great results with the lister and Tunde Ogunyemi, as well. She had her first baby on the first IVF attempt, age 39 (40 when it was born), her second attempt failed, third implanted but miscarried, had just had second baby on fourth attempt age 42.
I think 3 pregnancies on 4 attempts is pretty amazing really.
And she travelled from Wiltshire to London for treatment each time. hth

I have personal experience with the London Gynecology and Fertility Center on Harley Street. In fact, dd is here as a result of my treatments with them.
The center is headed by Prof Ian Craft (who is often quoted in newspaper articles when a fertility expert's opinion is needed). I was not his patient however, as I think he mainly sees people with only the most serious fertility problems.
I was treated by Dr. Ehab Kelada, and found him to be skilled, compassionate, knowledgeable and supportive (which shouldn't be underestimated when you are going through such an emotionally charged experience). Anyway, if you prefer a woman, there is a Dr. Venkat, who is good too. I know they used to have a satellite clinic outside of London - and I have a vague recollection that it is in the south, but a quick phone call would provide you with the answer. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for your recommendations. I dont actually need them now as I am 5 wks pregnant (obviously didnt know when I started this thread!). Hope the information helps someone else though, hopefully I'll never need to visit a fertility clinic again.
