I have been trying for Baby number 3 now for 12 months. I am 25 years old so is my husband we have 2 children already ds6 and ds4. The only time out I?ve had is Christmas and my birthday (may). Every month I use ovulation kit, which I do ovulate each month. I have a 26-32 day cycle. But still no baby each month when I come on my cycle all I can do is cry, it's getting me so down, I don?t smoke, I don?t drink I?m 5 foot 2 and 7 stone 7, I watch what I eat, where have I gone wrong?

Conceiving no 3 has been hell on elgs for me as well.
I bought the Toni Weschler book Taking Charge of Your Fertility 3 mths ago
I am now 7 wks pregnant
It is a godsend of a book
Basically it did not come down to just ovulation for me, I too knew I ovulated, what was missing for me was fertile cervical fluid which you get at ovulation time which enables the sperm to meet the egg without dying first.
The book explains it better. I was able to use a sperm friendly lubricant in place and try a few other of her tips and bingo.
Good luck I know how soul destroying it can be

piffle, now that you have no need for that book any more , can I borrow it please?

Madigan · 03/08/2006 13:06

Piffle - what other tips of Weschlers did you use? and was it pre-seed you used?
thanks

sorry - didn't mean to do multiple posts..

Babymad4num3 - the book Piffle mentions is indeed wonderful - should be compulsory reading for all women of child-bearing age imo!

The problem with ovulation kits I think is that they will tell you when you have ovulated which in many cases is too late for you to actually conceive. Unless you have intercourse just before or right at the time of ovulation, it is unlikely you will conceive as the egg does not survive very long.

The beauty of the Weschler book is that it explains how to chart your cycle so that you can accurately pinpoint the time of ovulation. One of the things to look out for is the consistency of your cervical fluid - it is thin and stretchy like eggwhite just prior to ovulation.

Good luck!

Ginerbear if I get to 12 wks and all is ok, the book is yours
For anyone else
I also will be losing
a basal thermometer in fahrenheit
a male fertility test - fertility score one test, used one test, the other is sealed.
other tips for cervical fluid are
grapefruit juice
evening primrose oil up to ovulation only
bizarrely doggy style sex (loads of us on ttc threads tried it and got lucky!) and legs in the air
I was so desperate I tried everything that last month as I was due to go onto Clomid and was not keen....
I also have 3 mths of clomid but fear as it is prescription only, cannot donate that

Gingerbear · 03/08/2006 20:34

fingers crossed for you piffle. I saw my gynecologist again today. I have a further 3 months on clomid. I don't qualify for NHS treatment (IVF, IUI etc) as I have a DD already, and I am too old. But I have the number for the Sheffield Fertility centre at the ready. Gyne. said all my tests were perfectly normal - low FSH,hysteroping. was OK, regular cycles, DH with good sperm results. Just to keep trying on clomid.

Gingerbear · 03/08/2006 20:35

Oh, and thanks for the (prospective) loan of the book!

Babymad4num3 · 04/08/2006 12:23

Gingerbear do you know how much it will be for ivf?

trace2 · 04/08/2006 14:22

and did he put your clomid up?

Gingerbear · 04/08/2006 19:25

£2500 for one cycle of IVF the other costs are here.
No increase in dosage - he was happy that my cycle was regular 28 days - didn't want to overstimulate ovaries. - higher doses can mean more eggs released.

jabberwocky · 04/08/2006 19:31

I have always thought that a slippery cervical fluid was of at least equal importance to timing. Grapefruit juice, omega 3's, evening primrose oil and a certain type of cough syrup can all aid in this (just google cough syrup conception for more info on this) Also a low-dose "baby" aspirin a day can increase blood flow to the uterus and help prevent early miscarriage.

Babymad - a positive OV test does NOT necessarily mean you are ovulating. It means your body has produced a sure of LH. For most women, this triggers OV, but there are cases where it doesn't.

I was getting +ves on OV kits most months, but when I saw a fertility specialist he did an internal scan and confirmed I was not OV-ing.

If you've been trying 12 months you're able to go see your GP about it.

Hugs,
Artoo.

Babymad4num3 · 07/08/2006 15:45

I went to the Doctor's last week about a kidney infection, but before he could give me any tablets for it, he had to do a pg test I told him there was no point that I've had 12 months of neg's, (he still did a pg test and yes it was a neg).
He told me to make an appointment next week to talk about the whole baby thing! I feel that once I go down the path that it will be taken out my hands and I will have to admit that maybe there is something wrong.

But sometimes it can be a really simple thing, like having to take a low-dose/baby aspirin a day (that happened to a friend of mine). I know it's scary, but really it will be better to know than keep wondering.
