TTC and a bit worried about health - please advise!

Hi, I'd be really grateful if anyone could advise me about my health and TTC - I'm probably worrying about nothing but I just don't know. Don't want to go to the GP if I'm being a big hypochondriac.

I'm 30 and I've been trying to conceive for about five months which I know isn't long, but what concerns me a bit is that about eight months ago I noticed my cycles were getting shorter, from 28 days to 26, then 25. On top of that my cramps have been worse. I used to get a bit of pain just as my period started but I'd just take a couple of ibuprofen and get on with my day. Now I have pain that lasts two days, keeps me up at night and isn't resolved with painkillers. It's definitely a worse pain - the sort that you can't ignore and makes you wince and clench your teeth!

I've also been extremely tired. For the last month or so I've come home from work and gone straight to bed and slept for several hours. Then I get up, have something to eat and then sleep through the night! I've also been feeling quite depressed and unmotivated (but then don't we all in mid-winter) and I've had really bad PMS mood-wise (tearful/snappy/oversensitive) which I never used to get.

Do you think all these things sound normal, or do they suggest any problem to you? Do you think there would be anything to be gained from seeing a doctor, or should I just wait to see if I conceive in the next few months? Thanks so much for reading!

Hi Snowmobile, I would go to the doctors if you're worried, if you have some tests and they come back clear then you'll at least have peace of mind and can continue ttc with a bit more confidence.
I'd certainly go to the doctors with your symptoms, anything that gets steadily more painful is worth investigating.

Thank you Coffeechocolate. I think it's the pain that worries me the most but it's just hard to know what's normal sometimes cos most people experience some pain with periods. It's not unbearable but it is pretty bad. Does anyone know if it's common for period to pain to get worse as you get older? And what can be a cause of cycles getting shorter? I find it really hard to know what to see a doctor about, I know that's a bit silly and I should just go!

The cramps I get for the first few hours are definitely worse now than when I was younger. I'm not sure if that's age or having kids though. I now have to take painkillers for at least the first couple of days, particularly at night, whereas I hardly ever had to before I had kids, maybe once or twice a year. So yes, mine have certainly got worse over the last few years.
It might still be worth you going to the doctors though Snowmobile, particularly as you're getting so tired too.
