I've been diagnosed with PCO (but not PCOS..) recently, and I've got a hycosy next week.

I'm currently on cd14 but having to use contraception until it's done :/ my question is, after the procedure, will my cycle carry on as usual or can it make you OV early or anything like that? as my cycles aren't regular and are usually long, I was hoping to carry on ttc and hoping to hit fertile time after the hycosy (it's on cd17). Any ideas?

I had this done this week and was told I couldn't have sex either protected or unprotected until after my next period.

gwenabee85 · 25/01/2014 13:28

why not?? I'd heard that sometimes people had a short period of high-fertility time as it had cleared their systems out..

I don't know i didnt question it! But the information sheet i got also says it - no intercourse until after next cycle. Maybe the fluid does something to lining of womb?

gwenabee85 · 25/01/2014 13:36

oh right, I'll ask them about it when I'm there then!

Good luck gwenabee!! Let us know how you get on.... I have my appointment at the clinic soon. Still haven't learnt how to be patient!!

Parsley2506 · 25/01/2014 20:00

Hey gwen. I had a HyCoSy scan last June and was told it was fine to resume dtd as soon as we liked, it was just doing it before the scan that was off limits.
Definitely check with the consultant on the day, seems there's conflicting advice between HCPs!

Good luck, I hope it goes well. It's a bit undignified but not painful at all, just some mild cramping after. Trickiest bit for me was getting the damn gown on the right way round! Blush

Parsley2506 · 25/01/2014 20:03

Ps, my cycles afterwards carried on like clockwork and we conceived 3 cycles later after 18m ttc

gwenabee85 · 26/01/2014 14:41

Hi lam, where are you up to now? Were you on the pcos thread? I recognise your name from another thread!

Thanks parsley, I think it'll be fine afterwards but I will check with them. And congratulations on your Bfp, when are you due?

I was, it's been quiet on there for a while. I am still awaiting my appointment at the clinic and still no sign of AF. Have been doing a fair bit if reading on PCOS and am wondering if the GP should have re-run my blood tests since coming off the pill and am also questioning why she didn't discuss any drugs for long term management of it. I am wondering if I should be on metmorfin to control blood sugar levels as I often faint and that has been investigated in the past with no real conclusion, I think this may be the cause! That said, am grateful for quick referral to hospital so I shall see what they have to say and then maybe go back to GP.

Hope all goes well at your appointment!

gwenabee85 · 28/01/2014 16:26

I'd chase your gp if it's been a while without your referral coming through, I had to do that and judging from the dates on the letters I don't think he'd done it first time round :/ and yeah, they probably should retest, I've had mine done three times now!

I've just got back from my hycosy, it was horrible but my tubes are clear :) they spasmed apparently, and it was very bloody sore :( but good news!

Also, I asked the nurse who questioned me before I went in if she had dh SA tests results on the system and she did but she didn't know what they meant, but the doctor would tell me. After hycosy (during which I nearly broke the nurses hand and threw up!) I asked her and she just said 'we need to retest', no further explanation :/ I nearly threw my drink at her, she was so rude!! The nurses were lovely but she was just horrible, no bedside manner at all!

I had a HyCoSy on CD8 and a BFP on CD28 after 15 months of trying.

Good luck!

Thanks treats and congratulations :)

Good news on the clear tubes!! Must have made the pain and doctor's attitude worth while. Knowing you have clear tubes must be a relief. I wonder if they wouldn't give you too much info on the SA due to patient confidentiality? My GP wouldn't give me DH's results and he had to ring for them. Get your DH on the case to track down the results and follow up if needbe.

I wasn't too clear in my previous post, had the referral and was just waiting the appointment which I have now had. I have to have a hycosy....Been given drugs to bring on a bleed and then I call to book the appointment.

gwenabee85 · 29/01/2014 20:08

Thanks lam, it did make it worthwhile, I am very glad! Still sore today though :s

I don't think it was a patient confidentiality thing as they were done under my name/nhs number, just think she was being awkward. So frustrating that they were right there in front of me and I couldn't have them! :/
Is it progesterone they've given you? Have you started it yet?

LAM1 · 01/02/2014 19:38

MY DH SA was done under my name/number, they still wouldn't tell me. By now hopefully you have those results? What next for you a retest of SA before anything else I guess?
Yep, that's the one. My last day is tomorrow so fingers crossed they work then I can book the hycosy....not looking forward to it.

HJ82 · 19/09/2017 11:29

Hycosy. WORST THING EVER?!!
OK. I had it this morning. It was inconclusive. Dye passed through my right side perfectly fine, straight away. Small trickle through the left... It was SO painful that she couldn't finish putting the dye in. Therefore I won't know if the left side is passable. Seems to me it must have adhesion's/scars or something isn't right or it would have passed just as easy and probably painless as the right side. The pain was so intense I almost passed out. I had a strong pain suppository prior to the test and still felt immense pain. So much so my entire body started shaking and i went cold with pins and needles everywhere. Has anyone else had this? have you had to do it AGAIN? I can't even think about booking this again. ever.

Hello,

I have searched the internet and can not find any Info.
My DC and I have been TTC for 2.5 years. I was pregnant December 2015 and had a miscarriage at 9 weeks. After 1.5 years of no success, I had a hycosy done this last December 2017 And got pregnant Feb 2017! Unfortunetly this too ended in miscarriage at 6weeks. We are trying again, Has anyone gotten pregnant after a hycosy had a miscarriage and gotten pregnant again the following months?
I am wondering if I should have another hyscoy done. Also, how soon can one get another hycosy after the first one?
Anyone have any experience with this?

HJ82 · 12/09/2018 09:34

@RF345 the hycosy won't have had anything to do with your MC. Sorry to hear about that. How are old are you? MCs happen more often in older women due to chromosomes in the embryo not being right. Have you spoken to you gyno about these mc's? Perhaps there are other tests you can do? I'm not read up well with MC. Good luck! Hycosy really just checks the patency of your tubes. They're clearly working for you. You just to work out how to stay pregnant. If you're relatively young with a healthy bmi then you can rule out a few things there

RF345 · 12/09/2018 10:41

Hello!

@HJ82 Thank you for the response! I am 33. I recently found out that I have high prolactin levels. My Gyno has referred me to a endocrinologist and am now in the process of having other tests done. This can very well be the reason why I have had MC. We will see! Have you ever had a hycosy done?

HJ82 · 12/09/2018 10:44

@RF345 yes, I posted my experience in the thread in sept last year. It was horrific. I ended up having a laparoscopy and they did it while I was out to it!

RF345 · 12/09/2018 11:12

@HJ82 Wow!! That’s sounds horrible! 😞How are you doing now? How were your results with hycosy? Did you end up having a successful pregnancy?

Gal1985 · 17/12/2018 18:30

Hey , new to this so pls bare with me 🙈. Just got my hycosy test done last week and was actually ok during it ( was surprised myself ) and nothing was found , everything was all ok according to the doctor . Which I suppose is good news but then again bit disappointing as was told it’s now straight to ivf waiting list :( .. anyone had the hycosy had nothing wrong and fell pregnant naturally ? Cause I’m crossin my fingers and toes this happens x
