Pregnant after Sterilisation

Posting on behalf of a friend.

She was sterilised at 24 after her third child, she has been having problems with the clips that they used. She says it feels like they move and she has been having a lot of pain in her side, she has been back and forth to the doctors who have told her it's all in her head and she's imagining things.
About three months ago my friend has what she thinks was a miscarriage, she has suffered a miscarriage before and said it was exactly the same, although doctors told her it wasn't and the odds of getting pregnant with the sterilisation clips are very small.
Well, yesterday she did a pregnancy test and it has come back positive, she is very worried now about epitopic pregnancy, and if having clips in will cause a problem with pregnancy.

Has this happened to anybody else? Is there a chance of this pregnancy being normal and not epitopic?

I do know of people who have had a successful pregnancy after sterilisation. However, your friend needs to be scanned ASAP to confirm whether it is an ectopic pregnancy or not.

She is going to the drs today to have a referral for a scan, I know she didnt want anymore children but now she is pregnant she's worrying about losing the baby or any harm the clips may cause?
She's very slim an if she pushes down where her ovaries are she can feel something hard on one side, the side she gets pain with, it moves an 'pops'. She has been to the drs and hospital about it but gets dismissed without even a scan to check.

Hopefully she can get them to scan the clips to see where they are.

But she does need that scan quickly. She could always self refer to the early pregnancy clinic if they are going to make her wait (don't see why they would as I have been sterilised and told to go to gp ASAP if pregnant because of the risk of ectopic pregnancy).

In this situation I would strongly suggest A&E. Ectopic pregnancy can be severe and life threatening.

Sorry! Posted too soon. I really think she needs to be scanned without delay. I hope she's ok, good for you being so concerned and trying to help Smile
