Hi all,

My partner and i have just started ttc. She come of the yasmin pill the start of the year and had her fake AF near after. We are charting using an app on a smartphone although we don't know how accurate it would be. However, from the app it says her OV day was 13th Jan. We had intercourse on the 9/12/16 with the 9th being the first time we did not use protection. Last night when wiping from going to the loo for a pee she had a red tint on the tissue but it's gone today, and then she has had a few stomatch cramps. Whilst I know this is our first month, and she has not had a proper period yet, could this be anything?

Her AF is due in 9 days, if she did get preganant would she get the normal signs such as sickness, tiredness etc or does this not always happen. And finally, if she gets her AF this month, does this mean she is now ovulating or not?

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately no-one can really answer any of your questions. All signs and symptoms can be indicative of ovulation, implantation, pregnancy or none of the above. Each individual will have a different version of normal. Take note of subtle changes and 'symptoms' but try not to read them for a few months until you might see a pattern emerging. It can take a while (sometimes months or years) for cycles to regulate after hormonal birth control. I would recommend buying a few cheaply pregnancy tests and don't take the first one until at least 8 weeks with no AF then 1 a week til it shows or u get a BFP. Good Luck

Oh also an app alone won't be able to pin point Ov with only a couple weeks Birth Control free. Best to DTD regularly throughout her cycle tomake sure you don't miss her fertile time. The app at the moment will be giving you ov times based on text-book averages but some people can ov earlier or later in a cycle and some people have very short or long cycles

Thanks ThoraNomiki,

Also, this maybe a stupid question, but is it common to have a AF but not ovulate? Just looking for any indication that my partner is ovulating.

Hi Darren thought I would just add that I found out I'm pg yesterday but I have no symptoms at all. So like someone else said its different for everyone!

darrenwis · 19/01/2014 11:02

Congratulations Honeybear30!! how long had you been ttc for? my partner is taking some seven seas trying for a baby vitamins, and i've always taken multi-vitamin so we are hoping that will try and compliment our efforts.

We were lucky and conceived on cycle 3, I came off my pill (microgynon) at the end of October. It seemed to be taking forever but now it's in perspective it didn't really.

I would also second not relying only on an app to time ovulation. My first two cycles I didn't ovulate when the app said I would. I could tell by pain and also ewcm, but of course only your partner can monitor this herself.

Thank you and best of luck!

This maybe a stupid question, but is it common to have a AF but not ovulate? We are just looking any indication that my partner is ovulating, will a AF mean this?

No unfortunately af doesn't definitely mean ovulation. Hormones control af rather than the release of an egg specifically.

darrenwis · 19/01/2014 13:23

So only way to know is for her to listen to her body, cramps etc. and/or ovualtion kits?

You can also track your body temp it should rise after ovulation.
The main reason to not ovulate is poly cystic ovaries.
A sign of this would have been irregular cycles before the pill.

As you have been ttc for less than a month, I wouldn't be worrying about fertility yet. Enjoy the process and keep your fingers crossed. It sounds like you are already both feeling a lot of pressure and I would recommend assuming that everything is fine for the time being.

Once you've been trying for 6 to 12 months you should go to your gp if you have concerns.
