Concerned about cycles

Hello all! I'd welcome any thoughts on this or if anyone has had a similar experience?

I came off the pill in April and my periods have been shorter and lighter than when I was on it, which I know is not uncommon. But it's last month that was most weird. My cycles were always more like 5 weeks than 4 before I went on pill, then v regular on it.

Since coming of my cycles have been 32 days, 35, 32, 35, 39 (followed by heavy period- had been on some medication and not TTC that month so thought it may have messed things up), 32, 32, 39. I think I ovulate around cd19/20/21/22. My last cycle in December was 39 days and I got really excited, but got negative tests then my period came- but it only lasted 2 days and was v light (only used tampons 1 day).

I'm really not sure what's going on!! Was going to start taking Agnes Castus to try and extend luteal phase but after last month I don't want to! And could the variation be because of variations in ovulating (had been temping/POS but taking a break now!). I'm worried my periods are too messed up to conceive.

Any thoughts lovely ladies?!

Xxxx

Hello! I am in a similar situation, came off the pill in sept had two 28 day cycles then a 40 day and now waiting to see how long this one will be. Used OPKs this month and I ovulated day 21/22 as well so this one should be at least 35. The variations are because of ovulation varying your right but since you have been off the pill almost a year I would have thought things would have got a little more regular by now?

Have you been to the doctors to get checked before starting Agnes? I am going to start with Agnes as well because have heard its harder to concieve with long and irregular cycles but want to gets bloods done first to check all is okay wth hormones.

I think as long as you have at least 10 days between ovulation and your period then the egg has enough time to implant after fertilisation.

I wouldn't worry too much, some people don't even have period for a year after coming off the pill at least we know we are ovulating and that is the main thing!

What you need first and foremost is a diagnosis of any underlying problem.

Self medicating with Agnus Castus can be a bad idea because it can make some hormonal problems worse.

I would seek medical advice with the view to having blood tests done; what you initially need is a day 2 test to check and compare your LH level against that of your FSH level. If these two hormone levels are awry then ovulation is often affected. Also it is quite possible to have periods without ovulating.

OPKs can be a very mixed bag if cycles are long and if they are consistently long use of these should be avoided. These kits measure LH: if levels of this hormone are raised (and this often happens with long cycles) the kit reads that excess and thus gives you a false positive result.

The pill leaves your system very quickly after taking the last tablet so in the event that periods do not readily return, medical advice should always be sought. Again such problems are often caused by hormonal imbalances which the pill have masked.
