ovaries not descended into the pelvis - has anyone ever heard of this?

this is on behalf of a friend.

he and his dw have been ttc for two years now. recently she had a laperoscopy and she was told that her ovaries are in the wrong place, apparently, similar to the testies these do descend down into the pelvis while baby is developing, but with her this hasn't happened apparently, and her ovaries are too high up for the sperm to be able to reach them. She has also been told that IVF would not be an option for her as egg retrieval wouldn't be possible due to the positioning of her ovaries.

I've never heard of this before, does anyone know anything about this? and does anyone know if there is anything that can be done?

She's desperate for a baby, but her consultant isn't being very helptul at all.

I've never heard of this, so I googled "undescended ovaries" and "ovarian maldescent" and found a couple of things, but a lot of it is in subscriber-only medical journals.

this study seems to suggest it doesn't always mean conception is impossible.

Can your friend get a second opinion, in the hope of finding a more helpful consultant?
