BFN but no AF... What's going on?!?

I'm a little bit flummoxed by whatever it is my uterus is playing at. I had unprotected sex on the 27th & 28th Dec (TTC#1 - 1st attempt.) which was technically CD16 and CD17. I've peed on 4 sticks between the 10th and 14th Jan (I have had a 28 day cycle for the past 5 cycles, so expected AF on the 9th Jan.) and had BFNs each time.

I'm not going to POAS again until Friday (when I'm 8 days Late, if still no sign of period) but I can't imagine it'll be positive.

What I'm really asking is when should I think about seeing my GP? Also, what will they do other than tell me to go home and wait?

Im in the same situation. Dtd around ovulation and no period yet but two negative tests. Maybe just testing too early.

Frettchen · 15/01/2014 17:34

That's my thinking. Maybe I'm just really slow at producing Hcg, or it took longer than usual for the egg to implant itself...

Or maybe I'm all stressed out looking for pregnancy signs that AF's late; That's not completely unusual for me.

The thing is; the longer I wait, the more stressed I am about not having a clue what's going on!

When were you due, Brian ?

I'm the same. Normally 28 day cycles but then my last AF was cd35.. I'm now on cd38 with this cycle. Lots of bfns. I'm no expert but reading on here, it is pretty common to just have late ones!

ImBrian · 15/01/2014 18:35

Not actually sure! Im not very good at keeping track of things. Its been over 4 weeks now though. I need to stop counting days on calanders and try to forget aboutit I think. I forgot how self consuming this whole thing was.

ImBrian · 15/01/2014 18:36

With my first I didnt get a bfp till 6 weeks after my lmp. Imust have ovulated after 4 weeks going from scan dates :)

Frettchen · 17/01/2014 14:27

Still no BPF and no AF... My period was due 8 days ago.

I'm going to call the doc when a: my phone recharges or b: everyone else leaves the office - whichever happens first. Even if I get there and Dr just says 'calm down and be patient' at least it'll be a little less terrifying.

^BFP... not sure what a BPF is!

Looks like AF is arriving today. Sad

I've been sick all weekend with the flu, and I think I had been battling it for the whole week after my period was due, and so it was a stress-skip rather than a pregnancy-skip.

So yeah - in my case it looks like BFN meant BFN.

On the bright side I can shake this flu and be eligible to give blood next month... Yay bright side(!)

Aww bad luck. But hey, means you're into the next cycle, you know where you are and you can plan for this month. Do you know when you ovulate? CD16 and CD17 may be a bit late for conception in a 28 day cycle but does of course depend on your luteal phase (time between ov and af).

The odd longer cycle can be normal every now and then. It's usually delayed ovulation or an anovulatory cycle which happens every now and then and just throws you out a bit. Your period wouldn't be delayed by stress or illness but ovulation might and then this would make your period correspondingly late iyswim.

Hope you feel better soon!

That is true, Showy - plus it's all more data to go on my chart (well, my excel spreadsheet) I just need to get better at taking my temperature every morning!

I did know I was probably slightly late in trying, but on top of that, I'm not 100% sure when (or if) I ovulate - I was dx with PCOS last year. Have been on the Metformin for 5 months now, so should in theory be returning to normal cycles, but opks don't seem to work for me (I will be talking to the doc about this when my prescription runs out)

Also, frustratingly, I can't try again this month. I was using a donor when I tried at Xmas, but have decided to go to a Fertility Clinic next, rather than trying the home route again. (Which is good, as it means they'll have a better idea of dealing with the PCOS than I do!)

Sorry - wasn't trying to be all drip-feedy. I wanted to be one of the lucky ones who got pregnant first try, even despite the medical issues and being a couple of days too late in the first place.

Not drip feedy at all. No reason to spill all your personal details on an online forum until you're into cycle three of trying. WinkGrin

Interestingly, a good friend of mine has PCOS and didn't get on well with OPKs.

You sound very positive, which is brilliant. I hope all goes well with the clinic. And temperature taking each morning is marvellous for building up a picture of what's happening. I only remember the struggle to do it whilst still calm and not out of bed yet. I used to roll over, grope about on the nightstand for my thermometer, knock it and a glass of water onto the carpet, swear, scrabble about upside down for 5 minutes, huff and puff and then take my temperature. Not quite how it's supposed to go...

Frettchen · 22/01/2014 12:34

Ah y'see, my routine is more of a 'wake up, hit snooze, wake up, hit snooze, wake up, stumble to the bathroom, return to bed and notice thermometer on the bedside table, swear profusely'

I think my current positivity is mainly because this is the first time I've tried in earnest, and I didn't have much confidence in it from the beginning, so it was a disappointment rather than a horrid shock when, eventually, AF turned up. Once I get through a couple of expensive clinic cycles I'm thinking my positivity might have fallen a bit. I don't expect the NHS to fund my attempts to conceive, but I don't half wish it wasn't so incredibly expensive!
