I've been on the combined pill for a month, but it's making me bleed constantly :(

I've been advised to persevere with it, and currently am doing. But hoping to conceive in the above months as I'm getting married in June so don't want it to be any earlier (get terrible sickness in first tri).

Sooo... General consensus, what would you do re contraception?!

Thanks in advance.

Persevere for now, and stop taking it the day before your wedding. No chance of morning sickness ruining the day then!

Ahh do you think?! I didn't know if I'd need time for my body to regulate. I've got pregnant quickly after coming off the pill before, but I've never had this bleeding before...

To maximise chances of conceiving within a small window - that is, to try to ensure that your cycle is back to normal by the summer - I think you should come off it 3-6 months in advance and use a barrier method (carefully!) in between. But I can see you might want more security than that if you really want to avoid any chance of being pregnant for the wedding.

We are also planning to ttc this summer and my last pregnancy was an absolute nightmare so it mustn't happen ahead of schedule. I have a copper coil though - quite handy as reliable contraception but you are fertile the minute it is removed. Probably not worth the faff for just a few months though.

Any chance of using condoms instead until after your wedding? I bled the whole time I was on cerazette, it is a bit grim, isn't it? Alternatively, ask your doctor about a different pill?

Writerwannabe83 · 08/01/2014 16:28

I would just stop taking it now and use condoms.

AngelsInWinter · 08/01/2014 16:47

Very grim :(

We could stop and use condoms, doubt dp would be excited about that prospect though ha! Have been on other pills and bleeding was fine but they only had a three hour window to take and be safe rather than 12 hours which wasn't ideal.
Thanks ladies.
Good luck kalidasa!

Well if it's condoms or nothing and he doesn't like condoms, definitely no chance of getting pregnant before you're ready! Grin

Hi

I would stop one month before or depending when your last period is. This gives your body enough time to readapt, rebalance and should u get pregnant in the wedding night as the very earliest its a nice souvenir. You avoid getting pregnant 2 month before and using condoms makes the whole thing also very strange if you don`t normally use them.

If you don`t mind using condoms for a while, get off it earlier than 1 month so your body can fully recover from the artificial hormones and chemicals contained in the pill.

I personally stopped 1 year before but we where careful and used condoms as I also didn't necessarily wanted to get pregnant and ruin my dress. :-)

Come off now and use condoms. There really is no guarantee of when (or if) someone can get pg. It could be the day you stop the pill, 6 months later or two years later.

Come off the pill now and use condoms or abstain until your Wedding Wink
Hormonal Birth Control can affect your natural cycle more than the doctors let on. I'm not a conspiracy theorist - I speak from bitter experience Angry

It is you that would be affected if you get pregnant sooner so if you are worried about morning sickness on your wedding day do use a barrier method in the meantime. It could take no time at all for the effects to wear off or, like in my case, it could take months (nearly a year now)
