Recurrent miscarrier needing ttc advice please

Hello, I've been given the go ahead by Prof Regan at St Mary's to ttc again having had all tests for RMC....unexplained apparently although small chance I may have TEG in pregnancy.

I have one dd and have had 4 mc since having her, including 1 devastating mmc. I'm 36.

Got AF today-only first cycle so shouldn't be getting hopes up but obviously did and feeling v sad and eating body weight in chocolate.

I'd be interested to hear opinions on best way to ttc and also what I should/shouldn't be doing re exercise, alcohol, caffeine etc.

We have taken the every other day or every three days approach to dtd. Is this widely believed to be best? We started on cd7 but stopped around cd20. Think we managed around 6 times. Perhaps I should be continuing right up until cd28? The thought of all that sex under pressure AGAIN really isn't a nice thought Sad

I drink around 2 cups of tea a day, have a glass of wine about 3x a week and run/row/swim 3x week. Diet is fairly healthy and stress levels are not toooooo bad but could be better. Am taking pregnacare conception. My old consultant actually advocated a bit of alcohol to relax me but I'm not sure whether this is good advice.

Has anyone got any helpful tips for me please?

Thankyou.

No specific tips but wishing you all the very best. Also suggest posting this in Talk / Conception, you will find lots of people there to offer advice and support.

Yes I think so (hopefully someone else can confirm?) and do pop over to the Conception thread, lots of folks in there TTC after mcs so I am sure you'll find lots of knowledgeable mners there. Good luck. Flowers

ChameleonCircuit · 04/01/2014 23:42

I'm so sorry to hear of your m/cs.

After the stillbirth of DS1 and three miscarriages, I turned to an acupuncturist who had been successful in treating ailments in my mum, DH and various friends. DS2 turns five next month. Grin

Tbh, I used ovulation tests and then a Clearblue monitor too, the sex under pressure was getting to us. If you're anywhere near Leeds I can recommend my acupuncturist. He also helped when DS was overdue.

Good luck.

Use ovulation tests. We TTC by guessing when I was ovulating for months with no joy. Used OPKs and got pregnant that month. It turned out I was ovulating about 5 days after I thought I should be.

ikeameatball · 05/01/2014 08:53

Thanks everyone, I have asked for my post to be moved. In the meantime I've ordered some opks.

Chameleon circuit I am so so sorry to hear of your stillbirth and mcs and very glad to hear you were successful with DS2. Unfortunately in nowhere near Leeds but have thought about acupuncture in the past so may as well give it a go. Think it's about time I tried absolutely everything as really feel time is running out.

Tobylerone great news for you!

Just wanted to wish you best of luck. I'm currently hugging sleeping dd2 (now11) who wouldn't be here without prof Regan & her marvellous team. Found out that there were problems with my teg levels & she wouldn't be here if I hadn't taken aspirin daily. I started bleeding with her at 5 weeks & almost lost her but we made it through! What I'm trying to say is don't lose heart if you do start to bleed as prof Regan will be onto it straight away.

I've subsequently been diagnosed with antiphospholopid (blood clotting issues) so may be worth having that checked out.

RaRayRay · 05/01/2014 09:13

Sorry to hear of your miscarriages Hmm

I also suffered 5 MC between DD1 and DD2 I also have a DS as well nowSmile

I also have a blood clotting condition and had to have injections all through my pregnancies to stop me MC.
So def worth getting it checked.

Good luck I wish you all the best and remember the feeling well.

ikeameatball · 05/01/2014 09:30

Thankyou, I have had all tests and do not have any blood clotting issues although may have TEG in a pregnant state which I will be tested for if/when next pregnant. I took aspirin in my last two pregnancies which obviously didn't work for me those times Sad

Thankyou for sharing your experiences, it really helps, and sorry to you both for your losses/problems. It's a rollercoaster. Makes me feel so isolated and lonely in RL.

There's a TTC after MC thread in Conception, and outside that thread there are many posters ttc after mc, so you will find lots of support over there.

Hi Ikea - I see you're aiming to get this thread moved which is probably a good idea.

I had 3 MCs between DS1 and DS2 and I honestly believe that a big part of the reason I had success with DS2 is that I got my vit D levels back within range.
Despite having been taking pre-preg vits/minerals and fish oils for the entire time, my vit D levels were below normal range; once this was discovered, I was megadosed to get them back into range and then when I got pg with DS2, he "stuck". Low vit D levels are associated with both infertility and miscarriage.

I do also have a blood clotting condition, Factor V Leiden thrombophilia, but with MC#3 I was taking baby aspirin and it made no difference. So my consultant gave me a scrip for the Clexane, and told me to start taking it as soon as I got a positive result, which I did. This might also have helped; and I was using progesterone pessaries (but I'd also used those in MC#3 as well, so again, not sure they were that big a factor).

Vit D is a bit of a "thing" over here in Australia; less so in the UK, although the research is there to be found, fewer docs "believe in it".
But it's definitely worth getting checked, and getting it into normal range - it absolutely can't hurt, and normalised levels of vit D are also supposed to help protect against a range of diseases, including bowel cancer, possibly MS and possibly Alzheimer's. Although I megadosed before pg, once I became pg I stopped taking the megadose; but was rechecked at about 16w and it had dropped again (worse than before!) so my GP put me on 1000 IU/day, which brought me back into range again pretty quickly.
Low vit D in pg can have an impact on bone formation in the baby, so it's a good idea to keep it under surveillance.

Good luck - hope this essay helps!

Sorry no advice but I truly hope 2014 is the year you get your baby!!!

ikeameatball · 05/01/2014 19:12

Thankyou all for your posts, I will look into Vitamin D thumb nuts. Sorry to hear of your mcs and that's brilliant that you got your ds2.

Eurochick I'll look out for that thread thanks.

Sorry to hear of your situation. Just wanted to add there's a recurrent miscarriage thread in the miscarriage section under body & soul. Lots of people who are /have been in the same boat who may be able to help /share stories. Best of luck.
