Clomid

Can clomid stop ovulation sticks from working?
I'm on first month and I've had a flashy smiley face for 6 days, but no solid smile. Does that mean I haven't ovulated. I have to wait until near end of month to go back to the doctors.

What are you on clomid for?

Snargaluff · 03/01/2014 23:22

Pcos. I barely have periods- like one every 4 or 5 months

I'm no expert but I'm sure the opks say that clomid can mess them up? Good luck!! I'm sure someone will come along soon who knows more! I would just Dtd every other day this month just in case :)

I only ask because im on it for pcos. Dont use opks you will constantly get highs its just your hormones its a false reading. I spent a small fortune on them before I was told they dont work for me. I have about 1 period a year!

Lottystar · 03/01/2014 23:40

Yes - same happened to me. If you use the opks just after taking Clomid you can get false high readings. I remember using the clear blue digitalis on my first cycle of Clomid and getting high readings for a few days then negatives and no peak. I didn't ovulate on 50mg. It took 100mg for me to ovulate, which I did the second cycle and fell pregnant. I mced at 7 weeks alas but still ttc. Just had my 3rd cycle. I'd stick with the cheaper opks if I were you and don't start testing until around 4 days after your last pill. Clomid is meant to make you ovulate between 5-10 days after finishing the course. Hope this helps.

I should add that I have found that I ovulate late on clomid - it was day 19 / 20 this cycle so it's hard to predict, although you'll have an idea by the ovulation cramps (never had them before taking Clomid - ouch!) Just try to have lots of regular sex and watch for your changes in cervical mucus too.

Sorry - I'm tired so just re-read your responses. Have hope, I'd not had one period (PCOS too) last year and since being on Metformin (ask your GP about this drug and google it) and going to acupuncture I have managed to start ovulating without Clomid. You can also use Clomid in conjunction with Metformin. They are said to work well together. Ask your GP got a day 21 test which will check your hormone levels - they should monitor you on Clomid as it can over stimulate the ovaries in rare cases.

Snargaluff · 03/01/2014 23:51

Thanks so much for this. I'm having a day 21 test. I will stop using the sticks as they are driving me crazy anyway. Am on 50mg, I really want it to work! It's all I think about.

I was given clomid after being diagnosed with PCOS, think I managed one period in 14 months. I would definitely recommend steering well clear of OPK's, and let the docs check if you are ovulating.
I wasn't given day 21 tests as my periods were so irregular they wouldn't have been reliable, instead I peed into a pot once a week for four weeks (all faithfully stored in the freezer!) then handed then all back into hospital for analysis.
It's maybe worthwhile asking if this would be a better method for you if you have irregular periods?
