Hi there - I am new to this forum but have been reading some wonderful advice from everyone over the past few months as me and my OH have been trying to conceive. I thought I would write this to get some specific advice for my situation.

So after just under 6 months of trying (I am 32yrs old) I found out I was pregnant on 5 Dec. I had no real symptoms other than bloating. After a few days of brown spotting and mild cramps, I noticed blood when I wiped after going to the loo on 10 Dec (I was 5 +3 at this stage). This continued for 4 days - never enough to use a sanitary towel (a panty liner would do) and the cramping was mild - moderate. Tbh it was just like a normal period for me just quite light (although the devastation was overwhelming). After visiting my GP on day 1 he gave me little advice other than that I could try again as soon as we felt ready. I wasnt offered a scan or bloodwork.

We were keen to conceive again as soon as possible and have DTD a few times since the bleeding stopped. I have done a few cheapo pregnancy tests since and have not yet got a negative result.

My concern is that a couple of days ago (thats about 3+ weeks after the miscarriage started, if you dont count the brown spotting) I got extremely sensitive nipples (red hot poker style), swollen veiny breasts, bloating and mild cramps. I did a CB test which said pregnant 1-2. I don't know if it is residual hormones or a new pregnancy. I have never had symptoms like this, not before a period or during the previous pregnancy which makes me think this is something different, but it would surely be too early for a new pregnancy to show up on a test, and if there is residual HcG how could I ovulate in the first place and why would I have 3 weeks with absolutely no symptoms for them to show up with a vengeance?!

I am driving myself mad trying to work this out. I have an appointment with the GP tomorrow but feel it will be a waiting game to see if the HcG is rising or falling.

Would love some advice from ladies in a similar position. Sorry for the epically long post, just wanted to ensure I covered all the details!

Hope the test results on Monday are conclusive OP.

I'm sorry Engels, that must be awful having it drag on for so long. I know I just want to start a fresh with a clean slate as soon as possible so this must be prolonging the agony for you. At least you know you are ovulating and systems are relatively normal so when you get the all clear you can go for it again. FX for you

Baxter, sorry to hear you are going through this, I am quite surprised they have not referred you for a scan to see if all the products have gone. If you had light spotting/bleeding they should really be ruling out a blighted ovum. That is when there is a sac but no baby ever developed, the pregnancy hormone in a lot of cases can take ages to drop and spotting brown blood is a common symptom of it, the sac can take some time to pass, I'm not saying that is what it is but it needs ruling out, it's what I had and i had spotting but the sac would not come away on it's own so i needed a erpc. (same as d&c) Also the having faint lines sounds so familar to as that's what I had, I would push getting referred for a scan to see what's going on, you can have an internal scan if there's not much there.

Really hope you're ok. The loss and pregnancy boards are amazing if you need support!

Baxter did you hear about your HCG results today?

Vickitoriana · 06/01/2014 19:13

I suffered a miscarriage last feb at 5 weeks... My levels were that of a non-pregnant woman on the first day of the miscarriage... Test went from positive to negative within hours. I hope this helps. X

Sorry for the delay in posting - I had exams all day yesterday and have been all over the place!
So...AF started on Monday morning. Exactly 27 days after my miscarriage. Got the HCG results back (although the receptionist didnt give me the values annoyingly) just said I needed to get another test in 4 days. I suppose with the neg test over the weekend and AF coming they will be zero by now. At least now I am back on track and we can start TTC again properly. I am just annoyed that I cannot trust my body anymore. I have never had symptoms like that before and now I suppose I will never know I am pregnant before I POAS. Its so frustrating. And to top it off, this weekend I am visiting my two best friends, one of which has just given birth and the other who is 20wks PG. I just feel a bit down in the dumps :( I need to have a bit of patience!! Stupid body

Oh Baxter, not surprised you feel fed up. So sorry it's not the outcome you wanted. It must be very frustrating, I wonder if the symptoms were a very strong ovulation reaction? You are supposed to be super fertile after a miscarriage?

I reckon your body will fall back into a rhythm, if you keep getting these symptoms at other times, it may be worth getting checked out by the GP anyway.

Very best of luck with everything, including your exams and hope things happen soon for you. Thanks

So sorry to hear that Baxter. I miscarried in July, was pregnant again in August and I'm currently 24 weeks. I'm not sure if the more fertile thing is an old wives tale, but it definitely worked for me.

Fingers crossed you get your BFP soon.
