Hi Nadine

I used Persona when ttc ds2.

I got mine for £65 from Boots, and the test sticks and £10 for a months worth.

Its a little machine that works out your cycle and gives you red and green days. When ttc, red means go for it! It tells you when to wee on the sticks, then you put them in teh machine and that decides whether you are red or green. It also gives you a little 'o' for the days you are ovulating.

You keep on using it and it apparently becoms more accurate after a few months once its 'learnt' your cycle. I only used it for a couple of months before falling pg, so I would def reccommend. IMO better than ovulation sticks, as it remembers your cycle, rather than you having to, esp if your cycle is a little irregular like mine.

Good luck, and HTH. There are bound to be people around who can give a better description though!

Hi Nadinetd

I'm sorry to hear about your m/c

Persona is sold as a contraceptive but works like the ov sticks so a lot of people use to pinpoint ov.

Theres a little button you press on the 1st morn of your AF. You then check it each morn as it counts up your cds. In the 1st month you have to do 16 tests (which are like ov sticks which you then put into Persona). It will show you an orange light when you have to test. It then just gives you red (chance of getting pg) or Green (Safe days) when it thinks that you are ov you get an egg sign. After the 1st month you should only have to do 8 tests.

Persona can be expensive from new about £70-80 i think. I bought my 2nd hand off Ebay i was really lucky & got one for about £8 but i think they can be anyway from £15-30.
You buy the sticks in pks of 8 & can get them for about £8.50 on Access Diagnostics.

I found mine useful to suss out my cycle but i'm not sure how accurate they really are. Monthly they work out a little cheaper than ov sticks but its still an expensive game.

Have you been ttc for a long time?

Hope this helps & Good Luck

J

Hi there- sorry to but in ladies but has anyone tried OVATEL ovulation predictors- the ones that use saliva?
I've just seen them on e bay and they sound..well..too good to be true.
Thanks

There's a thread called the Isis Scope Gang where people used these (though different brand). I have one (again diff brand) and haven't really used it consistantly or tracked it well. Think they are meant to be a good "back up" to spot ovulation but you are better relying on other signs like temping and CM.

andi0411 · 20/07/2006 17:33

Thanks for that. I've decided no to bother -i just don't want to get into that old obsessive thing -I am already obsessive enough without ov predictors!!! I'm a firm believer in reg bding...hee hee- though I do think predictors are useful for those with PCO conditions or whose partners work away etc..
Cheers

Hi,

I have used both Persona and Ovatel.
Persona is fine if you have a fairly regular cycle. Good idea to get one on Ebay though, don't spend £65. Mine cost £18 incl postage on ebay.

Ovatel I probably would not recommend. I used Persona at the same time and only occaisionally got the same timing from both.
Isis scope may be better I'm not sure.
With the Ovatel you can get a different reading depending on the time of day. So if I had CM I would be using the Ovatel all day until it gave me the right reading - not really the way to go.
Ask the ladies on the Isis scope thread, they may know more.

There have been a couple of BFPs on the Persona thread lately so that is encouraging.

I bought the Ovatel because it was cheap and didn't involve buying tests or weeing on sticks but then got Persona too.

If you can get either cheaply on Ebay then it's worth a go.

I got my Ovatel from access diagnostics new for £15. So on Ebay they should be pretty cheap.

All the best.

"though I do think predictors are useful for those with PCO conditions"

Actually this comment is incorrect. OPK's and the like measure LH levels. If a woman is producing higher than average levels of LH (a common problem with polycystic ovaries for instance) then the kit will just read that. Also such kits work on two misleading principles - namely that a woman has one rise in LH every month (not true) and that such a rise is immediately followed by ovulation (again not the case).
