Hi ladies, I've just joined as I need to vent.i just don't know what's going on. I had my first baby back in January, she was a clomid baby due to PCOS. I ovulated on day 20 for her. we have been TTC no2 since June with no luck. The last 2 cycles I took 100mg clomid again but my day 21 progesterone showed I hadn't ovulated and the doctor says I'm now clomid resistant. I've just been accepted onto a trial of injectables which is a result as we won't have to pay anything!
Anyway, I got what I thought was my period on Monday. I bled lightly for 2 days, and it didn't feel like af so I did a preg test, it was negative. So I did 2 ovulation tests, both different brands and both were positive, it's day 40!!! I also got EWCM. I'm pretty sure I did ovulate.
I was just wondering if any of you ladies have ever conceived after ovulation as late as day 40? Also I have now read that if you do conceive there is a really high chance of MC or possibly having a baby with chromosomal abnormalities. I'm kind if regretting BD'Ing now, I'm scared its all going to end badly.
Any success stories will be much appreciated.
Thank you :-) xxxx

Ovulation tests and PCOS are very uneasy bedfellows and I would refrain from using them at all (I write that as a fellow PCOSer).

Am sorry also to read that you are now clomid resistant; again a problem not unknown with PCOS. This is also why clomid should be given to PCOS patients with a degree of caution and also why I was never given it (v high levels of LH compared to FSH).

What these kits read is LH; as many PCOSers have an excess of this hormone the kit actually reads that and thus gives a false positive result. I would not actually take any notice of such a kit.

Am sorry I cannot give any real good news re the kits but I would be doing you a real disservice to suggest otherwise.

When do you start using the injectable drugs?. I would get them to properly show you how to inject (you will need to inject into the thigh); they may suggest practice on an orange or something like that beforehand.

Thanks Attila, I hope the test was correct but ill accept it wasn't and if by any chance it was t will be a huge bonus!
I'm going for my initial appointment at the fertility clinic on Tuesday. I really hope AF gets a move on so we can crack on with this. Although I'm not sure how it all works with scans over Xmas, I think they have to scan you regularly during a cycle with injectables don't they?
I hate PCOS :-( Is there any way that actually works to test for ovulation for us? Xx

Temping is not foolproof, but should give you an indication of whether (and when) an egg is being released.

It's cheap to try. Fertility friend is free and a basal thermometer is less than a fiver.

Is a basal thermometer different to a normal one? How does fertility friend work? What does it mean when people say they are waiting for fertility friend to confirm ovulation? Xx

A basal thermometer has 2 decimal points, so you can record small temp variations.

Fertility friend records your temps and other signs on a chart and uses the info to indicate when it thinks you ovulated. Your temp goes up by a bit (around 0.5 degrees C) after ovulation due to the progesterone in your system. FF confirms ovulation once the temp has been increasing for 3 days in a row (so it is not just a random blip). I found it really helpful to get to know my cycle.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 07/12/2013 21:23

Eurochick is right, temping is not foolproof at all (you can have a temp rise in the second half of the cycle when an egg has not been shed) and I would use temping with a degree of caution. Again it is problematic to see a definitive clear chart when PCOS is present.

Injectibles is quite involved as a process overall, you will likely be scanned regularly to check an egg has left the ovary. I was shown how to inject an orange along with the needles used and a sharps bin (those needles once used need to be placed in that for safe disposal).

Hi ladies!
Just an update for you (if you care!) lol
I went for my first appointment today at the fertility clinic. I have been accepted on to the LOGO study which is looking at giving people with PCOS who don't respond to clomid or who have become clomid resistant a smaller dose of FSH to try and reduce the risk of multiples. So I'm getting a whole injectables cycle for free, I can't believe how lucky I am. Anyway while I was there I has to have bloods, a smear test and an internal ultra sound and to my surprise I have just ovulated! So I deffo am in the 2ww! The ov test wasn't lying to me. He also said it didn't matter that is was day 40 when I ovulated as I don't have regular cycles anyway. Apparently my womb lining is nice and thick so I'm hoping soooooooooo much I get my BFP!
Xxx
