has the consultant suggested or referred you for futher testing to determine why you are not ovulating?

It is almost certainly a hormone imbalance - have had a history of these and had PCOS for years before 10 years of Dianette. Came off 2 years ago and then 3 months later conceived ds - a miracle! But now have had very very irregular bleeding and blood tests showing low progesterone.

Best wishes

alexh,

The PCOS is certainly the reason why you are not ovulating; it is not a condition that goes away of its own accord. The symptoms of it at best can be controlled and it is certainly not a barrier to conception.

Would think that the cons will want to run some more blood tests and also for you to have internal ultrasound scans to see what your ovaries look like. Polycystic ovaries have a characteristic "ring of pearls" appearance and ovaries can appear larger than normal size (an ovary is usually the size of a walnut).

BTW dianette is often given to women who present with PCO/PCOS because of its anti androgenic effect.

You may or may not be offered clomid - I say may not be offered as clomid is not always suitable for all PCOS patients. Clomid can raise levels of LH so if your LH/FSH ratio is high to start with you may not receive this. There are other treatment options available if clomid is unsuccessful; injectible drugs and ovarian diathermy surgery to name but two.

As a PCOS patient you may want to look at Verity's website as this is the UK based support group for such women. Their web address is www.verity-pcos.org.uk.
