Hi all. Hoping you're collective wisdom will shed some light for me.
Been TTC #2 for just a few weeks now. Been using the CB ovulation tests for a couple of weeks - every other day, or every day on occasion.
Bit of history - I've only stopped BF DC1 in mid October and I also have PCOS...so I knew trying to track my cycles after ending Bfing was going to be tricky.
Anyway, got a 'peak fertility' reading on the test yesterday morning (about 7am). 48hrs prior had got a neg.test (ovulation test that is). DTD about 12hrs later-about 7ish last night (sorry if tmi).
Today get another neg.test result.
So my first question is could waiting that 12 hrs to DTD mean my window of opportunity had passed. Can it really be that fleeting?
And secondly, is it common/normal to only get one day in a cycle with a positive reading? With my history, God only knows when I'll next ovulate so was really banking on having 3-4 days.
(Might not tell DH about neg.reading and just stick with plan of fully utilising a possible 3-4 day window Wink)
TIA all x

Which one are you using? The dual hormone one with the circle and then flashing and straight up smiley faces??

I used it this month in conjunction with my cb fertility monitor. The stupid thing gave me a negative then peak, then negative then peak. The second peak corresponded with my monitor peak and with my own calculations.

I've seen some bad reviews on amazon for these, and I was very annoyed with the first peak as it put my dtd schedule out of kilter (yes I'm that sad!!)

I actually had better luck reading the sticks, you can Google how to do it, and it does show a surge accurately I think!

Hi luckystar.
Yep, it's the dual hormone, smiley face one.
Annoyingly I am usual obsessed with hacking reviews before buying/booking anything of significance. But for some reason didn't on this one. Interesting to hear there are mixed reviews on amazon. You would think because of the (outrageous) price of them, that they'd be one of the best on the market. Evidentially not.
Will try again tomorrow and see what it says.
Will also have a google as to how to rad the sticks -great tip. Thanks.
Best of luck to you. Here's hoping we both get a BFP Christmas pressie xxx

Did I read right that you used them every other day or every day? Maybe you were talking about something else!

Luckystar1 · 04/12/2013 19:53

Mammy are you Irish?? Just wondering with the name!

Yes Fx for a nice Christmas present!!

j200 · 04/12/2013 19:59

hey i am using these too and given up as had 6 days of flashing smileys in a row, seems quite a few people have had issues so next month will be going for the plain lh sticks x

Hi, not sure how helpful this will be as there is absolutely no science or medical evidence behind this, but it could be food for thought!
We were TTC DC2 and I was still breastfeeding DC1 20 monthsf irst thing in the morning (although I'm not sure I actually had any milk - more a DC1 comfort thing).
I was using the CB fertility monitor which gave me a peak reading - DTD at the right times etc and didn't get pregnant. I did some lurking on conception boards here and discovered that when feeding (and maybe with PCOS?) your body can get ready to ovulate and then kind of 'chicken out'! The hormones are there, the ovaries just don't do their thing for a few more days. This made sense to me as I'd get a peak and no EWCM/symptoms until a few days later.
So....... I started to use the smiley face sticks and DTD with the peak AND kept using them for a few days afterwards as there was another peak within about a week.
Worked first time and am due DC2 on Christmas day!
Good luck.

Babyrose-was largely doing them every other day, but on a couple of occasions I did them on consecutive days.

Luckystar - yep, paddy and proud. Hope I'm not outing my rl self though Blush

Oneslice -big congrats. And thanks for the anecdotal story. Kinda sounds like a similar experience to Luckystar.

Have been doing the cheapy amazon sticks too, which I find quite hard to read (hence i reverted to CB ones) but one I did this afternoon seemed to suggest a positive result.

Mammy, it won't at all! There's a lot of us paddys on here!!

When I used normal opks I would test twice a day at around 1.30 and then 5 or so. They are hard to read, I kept thinking it was +ve but then when it was it was very obvious!

You must be similar to me so, I'm due af on 16th I think.
