Hi Everyone. Have been trying for a Baby for 8 months now without success. Have been having regular periods (28-30 day cycle). Bought an Ovulation Testing kit which I have been using for about 10 days or so. NO SMILEY FACE. Is it possible to have regular periods and NOT ovulate. Getting worried.

The list of initials and what they mean is under acronym list.
If you click on it..it tells you what things stand for but you get used to it very quickly!!!

in answer to your question - yes, it is possible to have regular periods and not ovulate. the only sure way to know whether you're ovulating though is to have a blood test done which will determine whether or not you are ovulating. if you are under 35, it is recommended that you go and see your gp after you've been trying for a baby for a year or more, over 35, you should see your gp if you've been trying for 6 months. It's worth remembering though that it can take a perfectly healthy fertile couple up to a year to conceive, so try not to lose hope, easier said than done I know, but there are many, many people on these boards who have been trying for at least a year without success. try not to stress, the more you stress, the less likely you are to ovulate, good luck.

Hope you don't mind me crashing this thread but it's taking bl**dy forever for my computer to load the Clomid Gang thread, and my question is ovulation related....
I'm on Clomid, cycle 3, cd 21, and something Wannabe said here made me think. I went for a scan on day 12 of my 1st cycle to confirm that Clomid was working and they found a "nice fat follicle". I was told to bd every other day and good luck. That was it. I've been left to it. But... am I right in thinking that just because the follicle was there it doesn't mean it was released does it?? I never had a blood test to confirm ovulation so in theory I may not be actually ovulating ??

pendulum · 14/07/2006 20:50

Hi all,
Sorry Gelfling, I don't know the answer to your Q but have a similar one, so maybe people can help us both.

This is my first month TTC no. 2. Am on day 20 of 34-ish day cycle, but have had absolutely none of the cervical signs that I remember from TTC my DD. (I'm not charting or temping.) Does anyone have a view on whether it is too late in the cycle for me to ovulate?

Thanks for any comments (and my DH will thank you too- he's worn out from the 'just in case' BD-ing)!

Sexonlegs · 14/07/2006 21:57

Hi Pendulum, doesn't sound too late to me. My cycle is generally 30 days, and I seem to ov around day 19 or 20 - according to cm and ov sticks. However, everyone is different. Have you used the ov sticks? Lol about the bdíng. Me and dh are getting a bit like that. He picked up his book the other day, and I was like what do you think you are doing - we have babies to make! Poor guy!

bobblehead · 14/07/2006 22:33

I think I ov on cd22 of 35 day cycle, but I could be wrong. Like you I'm not finding the signs quite as clear as when I conceived dd!

pendulum · 15/07/2006 12:44

SOL,I've never used the ov sticks. Am wary of buying them at this stage (Ist month trying) in case it betrays me as a complete control freak

(whereas rummaging in knickers for cm is soooooo nonchalant )

Do you use them? Do they work? Have heard they are a bit hit & miss especially when yr cycle is not bang on regular (mine's still settling down after the Pill).

Sexonlegs · 15/07/2006 13:36

Hi there. I have tried them the last couple of months, and I think they have been accurate for me, as I get ov pain at the same time which is quite fortunate (in a strange way!) However, I know others haven't found them as helpful.
Looking in knickers is probably just as good as anything - and cheaper!!

DollyP · 15/07/2006 20:50

June001, if your GP is obliging then you can get him to do the initial blood tests. YOu have one test for LH and FSH on day 1-5 and then a progesterone test on day 21 which will tell them if you ov that month. All this can be done without the ref to a gynaecologist. It can take up to a year to get pg, but if you are not ovulating then your year hasn't really started to run, IYSWIM. I would pop to the GP and ask for the tests to see where you stand. If you can spot ovulation by pain, cervical mucus etc then you can start counting your year but if you are unsure I would get the bloods done just to check that there is an egg on its way...

BTW, i had both tests last month and I am not ovulating . Havejust had them repeated so fingers crossed.

Good luck!
