Ive recently had an eptopic pregnancy and lost my right side. Im scared to get pregnant again but really want a little brother or sister for my 18 month old. Anyone had an eptopic pregnancy who can give me advise. No one i know knows what im going through.

Hi heather so sorry to hear about your ectopic pregnancy. I've been there and it's awful. As well as the shock and grief process it does make you fearful about next time.

The good news is that although losing one of your tubes and/ or ovaries can have some effect on your fertility, it's by no means as bad as I had feared at first! If you have both ovaries and only one tube, the remaining tube can swing across and 'catch' the egg, no matter where it comes from. And if you've lost an ovary too, the other ovary simply takes over and you continue to ovulate each month. I was quoted something like you still have 80% as much chance of conceiving as before you lost the tube.

When you do conceive again, the chances of another ectopic rise from 1% to 10%. So that's a 90% chance that it will be in the right place! As soon as you get pregnant, tell your GP ASAP and they will make sure they keep a close eye on you.

Do have a look at the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust website for more information and forums for support. There are also some good positive stories on the miscarriage/ pregnancy loss board here too. In the meantime please be very gentle with yourself and allow as much time as you need to come to terms with what has happened.
