Hi ladies, I miraculously got a positive opk a moment ago. I say miraculous as this is the first time I've ovulated naturally in over a year. To cut a long story short, I have PCOS, have been ttc for over a year and suffer with anovulation (no ovulation, no periods). I fell pregnant on Clomid in September but very sadly miscarried in October. My husband and I felt okay to start trying again as early as possible as I need to make the most of any opportunity of ovulation given my condition. I've taken a break from Clomid for a while but my GP put me on Metformin and I started acupuncture. Anyway, my hubby and I dtd on Sunday night, he is away on business until tomorrow late afternoon. Do you think I'll miss my window of fertility? I'm not sure how long after you get a positive that you ovulate? Thanks xx

I assumed yesterday you didn't get a positive? Are you using monitor or cheap internet opks….?

I'd say you are definitely in for a chance. There can still be sperm there from your Sunday night session as that was less than 48 hrs ago. It can take some time for your egg to be released and it lives for 12-24 hrs, so try to chill and just dtd when he comes home tomorrow.

Ultimately, it's out of your hands but keep the faith and really hope this is a lucky month for you x

Definitely in with a chance! I am pregnant at the miment, ovulated probably on the Saturday evening but had sex onthe Thursday night. Sperm can survive for at least 48 hours.

I'm also pregnant and we DTD on Thurs night and I didn't see a temp rise til the Monday morning suggesting I ovv'ed on the Sunday. So three days was ok. Suggest you jump his bones as soon as he gets home tomorrow to cover all bases!

Good luck!

Thanks for your replies ladies, it is a cheap internet opk but the test line was way darker than the control line. Also got negative opk late last night. Neurotically, I did three tests yesterday as my ovaries were burning and usually I never feel ovulation pain so I suspected ovulation or something going on! All were negative until 11am ish this morning. I bet you gals who are pregnant are having girlies, the further away from ovulation you dtd apparently it's more likely to be a girl as female sperm is slower but lives longer. It would be such a boost if I were to get pregnant again quickly, the miscarriage was very early but it would be nice to face my original due date with a big baby bump ... Whilst you can never replace that lost bean, it somehow makes it more bearable xxx

I hope you get preggers quickly too.

OPKs are very uneasy bedfellows when PCOS is an issue as they can be unreliable in such circumstances. I would actually stop using the OPKs forthwith. These can cause problems to women with PCOS because they measure LH levels; in PCOSers these are elevated to start with so the kit more often than not reads that excess and thus gives the person a false result.

You should be really under the care of a consultant gynae rather than the GP particularly if this person prescribed metformin.

blamber · 26/11/2013 14:34

It's not true about female sperm being slower but living longer! Some research even suggests the opposite: that dtd close to ovulation increases your chances of conceiving a girl.

Lottystar · 26/11/2013 18:37

Hi Atilla, I've heard that too but actually never had a false reading to date. The only positive I ever got was before last conceiving and that ended in pregnancy, albeit one that sadly concluded in miscarriage. I usually get big fat "no" when I use opks on the whole. I feel quite positive as I also had ovulation pain, ewmc a few days back and slightly sore boobs. Definitely hormonal. GP has happily prescribed metformin to control my PCOS symptoms and hopefully kick start ovulation - I was surprised too as I had to go to a consultant for the clomid.

Blamber, is that true? I've always read the opposite. Interesting stuff.

Trust your body then and cross your fingers and jump on your man when he comes back to cover your bases.
X
