OH and I have started early and are risking an August child with the thinking that it's probably not going to happen straight away in 1st cycle of trying. Would love to hear advice/comments from other teachers who are also trying to fit in maximum maternity! Ideally would love a little one born any time in the run up to Christmas 2014, I'm thinking I could possibly manage the first half term working if DD is end of Oct onwards...?

Yes!

DS was born Nov 2012 (5 days after mat leave started, oops! That's another consideration!) and we're thinking about starting TTC next month. However, I think I've got secondary infertility due to breastfeeding at night, so we might be some way behind you.

DichotoMous · 21/11/2013 20:50

Yes! Thinking exactly the same as you Mamma - Aug, Sept or Oct would be great. Maybe even Nov as then you could work up to half term (at a push!)?

PotteringAlong · 21/11/2013 20:53

Well I'm a teacher and currently on month 12 of ttc so I'm saying plan nothing, give it a whirl and see what happens.

mammabear4 · 22/11/2013 15:36

If I can get on maternity before next school year I will miss out on ofsted, wahoo! Have a feeling that raising a small person will be much harder though :(
Eek yoko I've not heard of secondary infertility before, here's hoping you don't, keep positive!
I don't want to get my hopes up too much but it's so easy to have a certain due date in mind and pin your hopes on it, fingers crossed for us all! Hope everyone's not too stressed with end of term assessments mixed in with Christmas activities/fairs/plays etc - I'm sure the recommendation of not being "too stressed" while TTC didn't take into account professions such as ours :( it's impossible!

I'm risking an August baby too!! Starting a new job in jan though which is going to affect my occupational maternity pay, in that I won't get any but hey! I was all excited about ttc when I realised the pay problem! Good luck everyone!

littlemissy1234 · 22/11/2013 22:11

I've just started, after a mmc I'm not even thinking about the month of due date! I'm a secondary hod and any point of the year is stressful. I found out I was pregnant the mc on the day of exam results - extra stress!
Other thing I've been pointed to is a Sept baby is an extra 9 months of chikd care!

Honeybear30 · 22/11/2013 22:15

hibou just a little advice, if you are moving jobs between schools you are still entitled to omp. Just be aware!

Hibou7688 · 22/11/2013 22:44

I'm moving from academy to state school and in ad ifferent authority.. I spoke to union about it, they said it'd be a break in service and would affect it..as i'd have to build upto 1 years LA service before i could qualify. Unless you've experienced different? It's the academy bit that makes it difficult!

Rmball79 · 22/11/2013 23:47

this was me last year! we risked an August baby and ds was born on the 29th August. good luck to you all.Smile

Tea1Sugar · 23/11/2013 12:56

I'm a teacher and nearly 19 weeks with dc2 due mid April. I'm hoping to work right up until the end of term but realise this is VERY close! But please don't plan for a specific due date. I was lucky conceived within 8 weeks of coil removal but teacher friends I know have tried for upwards of a year. It'll happen in good time :-)

LittleRedDinosaur · 23/11/2013 13:02

Not a teacher but TTC in December. Did the same with DD and got all impregnated first cycle so we're hanging on this time! good luck!

KittyVonCatsington · 23/11/2013 13:10

Hello, new to Mumsnet but TTC #1 and also a secondary school teacher. I couldn't really see a 'best time to have a baby' as there are pros and cons with every 'conceivable' Wink month! If I have an August baby, less childcare costs, if I have a September baby, eldest in the year but miss out on getting to know new classes etc. My DH is also a teacher. We just decided to leave it to fate. My biggest challenge is getting the energy to DTD regularly when we both feel so exhausted!

upnorth11 · 23/11/2013 18:19

Hi all, same here: working in a secondary school and first month ttc. Ov just gone... Have been off conception except barrier methods for over 2 or 3 yrs and excited about it all. Hope we don't have to wait for too long... Good luck all

tinselkitty · 23/11/2013 18:21

I conceived in Jan. DD born in sept which is great in terms of her age when she starts school.

Was also lovely as I finished work in July at 30 weeks and didn't go back! I pretty much didn't work for my last trimester think I'd have been signed off if I had had to work

upnorth11 · 23/11/2013 18:24

Oops. I wanted to say off contraception rather than conception in my earlier post :-D

mammabear4 · 23/11/2013 19:17

Ahh that's a good point about childcare costs! I'm a primary teacher in a KS1 class and at this age there are big gaps developmentally between the children who turned 5 JUST before starting the new school year and the ones who are now already 6. I know it obviously balanced itself out fairly quickly but having had the insight I do feel like I'd rather my child had a head start if possible! Having said that, it's a very good point to not be too set on a particular date because it does set you up for disappointment. We will be blessed whenever they end up being born!

Maternity leave wise - how long are you all hoping to have off? Are you planning on returning full or part time?

A good question, mammabear4, as I know I might change my mind when little one comes along; moneywise, I should really go back at 9 months but am realistic enough to think I'd rather be at home for another three months and I am sure we would cope somehow!

angelicjen · 24/11/2013 02:15

Yup, we're both teachers and have decided to wait. Have enough pills to last til Dec 3rd, then all systems go! Goodness knows what will happen then but very very excited. Also after lurking here for a few weeks quite scared too. Didn't realise it could be so complicated. Fingers, toes, eyes crossed for us all.

KittyVonCatsington · 24/11/2013 09:11

Hi tinselkitty, just a quick question; was you little one premature, on time or late? I am still struggling with working out due dates as most online calculators won't work for future dates. My reason is that both my brother and I were premature and so talking into account that my little one might also be premature, would there be a likely possibility of a Jan conception being born in August? I know that there is always a possibility but wanted to know how 'fine' it can be cut. Planning for if you are going to have an August baby or still going to go back in for the start of term is still playing on my mind! Hope that makes sense!
