Pregnant after mc 6 weeks ago? Or can the test be + due to residual something?

I had a mc 6 weeks ago at 9 weeks. Ultrasound at EPU showed empty uterus. Midwife advised that i test again around 26/10 to make sure test is negative. I never did this as I didn't have tests in and never got round to buying.

Last week - sore boobs and super moody. Thought AF imminent. Nothing happened, so I POAS on Monday, positive!

Phoned EPAU, said to come in for a scan, spoke to GP yesterday, he refuses to send me for a scan as I apparently don't fit the referral criteria... So am I or aren't I? He said to treat it as a new pregnancy and have the usual 12 week scan. Can you have residual HCG in your urine 6 weeks after mc? We only dtd 3 times in 6 weeks!!! I am desperate to know for sure, any advice. Pg test came up +'ve straight away.

I know a few who have done this. MC'd early on then gone on to get pg on the next cycle

If your GP won't send you for the scan, can you self-refer? If not, I think you'll just have to wait it out

I had a miscarriage at 5 weeks and I got a positive test result with a new pregnancy 26 days later (17 weeks pregnant now)

I would think if you have a strong positive then it will be a new pregnancy so congratulations. I really hope it is.

I would call the EPAU again they might let you come in without a referral. I would explain that it's quite distressing to be unsure in your position, especially after having a miscarriage so recently. Fingers crossed that they'll see you, and if not I'd try and go back to see a different GP and explain to them. At the very least they could do a quantitative HCG test repeated over 2 days to see if it's increasing at the expected amount you would expect with a new pregnancy.

I think it's good news though. Fingers crossed that you have a very boring and uneventful pregnancy this time around.

If the NHS won't scan you/carry out tests. If it's something you want to do and afford then you can get a private viability scan for about £80-100 at some NHS hospitals or private clinics. They'll usually offer scans from when you think you are about 7 weeks and they can check its a new pregnancy and can work out how far along you are by measurements.

Really hope that NHS will offer you something though so you don't have to pay.

Oh in the meantime what about a clearblue pregnancy test? You can get ones with a pregnancy conception estimation. If you get a pack of 2 you could do one one week, then the next one the following week and see if the estimation of how far along you are has changed. They work by checking how much of the HCG hormone is in your urine.
