I've heard a few successful mums to be discuss Vitamin B when ttc but I don't know what it does, when it should be taken or in what dose?

Has anyone had any success with this?

Some take B6 to lengthen their luteal phase, when it's shorter that 10-12 days. If your luteal phase is fine, then you don't need it. Some take it only after ovulation, as it could delay it. It works for some, but for many it doesn't do anything. I got some bad side effects, tingling in my limbs for a couple of months. I would therefore advise you not to take it!

I took it for 4 months to get more ew which it worked great. But then it started pushing my ovulation days later and later so I stopped. Water works just aswell so that's what I've started doing instead.

Actually for me, making my cycle longer would be great. I've come off the depo injections and had my first period, two weeks later i had my second, then three weeks after that I've had my third so maybe I'll give it a go!

50 mg of b6 helped me get my sticky bfp after 3 yrs of infertility and 2 mc. I was actually advised to take it throughout pregnancy as well. I believe I wouldn't have ds without it
Good luck

If you've just come off the depo, you should give your body some time to recover naturally. If your cycles are still short after 6 months, then maybe go see the GP. It's useless taking B6 so early after stopping birth control, because it will probably sort itself out naturally.

Foodylicious · 18/11/2013 22:31

Andcake do you have anymore info about taking it through the pregnancy?
I am 10 weeks now and stil taking the 50mg i started (in addition to pregnacare) to lengthen luteal and keep sticky beano in place (ttc since 2011 1 mc in may this year).
I have been unsure about how and when to stop it. Currently thinking about reducing it to 40mg at 12 weeks, 30mg at 13 weeks etc until just on vitamins. Any info you had or where you got your advice from would be ace!!

beige whilst i think B6 is ace I really would suggest giving your body a few months to sort itself out and see what it does. You never know it might be preparing for perfect spot on cycles and taking B6 might change that. Would suggest doing a bit more reading about normal cycles and luteal phase so you know what you are aiming for.

I took 50 mg plus pregnacare through out - I discussed it with my gp and a consultant I had to see as I was high risk . Both basically told me that high doses of vit b were often given to relieve morning sickness so as long as I didn't take more than were ever prescribed for that it was ok. Typically as it's over 18 months ago I can't remember what that amount was maybe try google
I stopped for a bit after ds was born but started taking it again as I felt better and despite a new born slept better if I took it.
Only side effect was breast milk went yellow ( like your wee does ) Shock tmi - spoke to a dr about that too and told it was fine !
I know when I was pregnant I was a bit scared of stopping but also of continuing so I know how you may feel. I had had mc previously as well. Anyway ds is now a v lively toddler.

I took 100mg of it daily and it had no effect at all for those two months. A month after I stopped, my luteal phase was longer by three days. Does b6 stay in the system long enough to do this? I'm guessing not but thought I would check!

funkymonk · 19/11/2013 21:29

Hi vjones, vitamin b6 is water soluble so it is nothing that stays in your body and will need to be 'topped up' each day.
My first cycle of 60mg B6 I ovulated a day later than usual but had no pre af spotting and my luteal phase was one day longer. The month after I took the same amount. I did not ovulate by day 23 so stopped the b6. It took 3 more days for me to ovulate, I then started taking B6 again and had an 18 day luteal phase that I did not know was even possible!! This cycle I took no B6 until 7dpo (then took 60mg again). I ovulated day 17 as usual and got my BFP 11dpo!!! This is after 12 cycles of trying and a mc in July.
I remember you from the conception buses and I would guess that your longer luteal phase was due to your body regulating itself after the pill. Things just take time. When I stopped the pill I had a 7-9 day luteal phase for 4 months, this then extended to 11-12 days. Take a good quality prenatal and give your body up to 6 months to get back to normal after the pill (this is what medical professionals advise). Wishing that you get your bfp soon Grin
