Ovulation pains and conception?

Hi all! I get ovulation pains at the same time every month, and was wondering if I could use this to conceive, in terms of timing etc. Does anyone get ovulation pains and have you had any experience with using them to conceive? Is it best to try on the day of the pains, the day before? I'm not sure of the timing because some people say the pain is caused by the egg being released, and some say it is the fallopian tubes wafting the egg down towards the uterus. Any help/ideas?

I'd like to know too please!

I started with them on Saturday and still having them. Ovulation according to fertility friend was Monday but still in pain and EWCM since Monday is also still here.

I have this. At 37 was quite concerned about conceiving. As soon as I had the pain I went for it! Pregnant a week later.

Do the deed AS SOON AS you get the pain! The egg is being released.
Good luck!

I just wonder why I have had the pain then for five days? Hopefully covered the DTD on Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday but EWCM not until Tuesday!

Tbh these are my first real periods in almost three years as my DD almost two. Maybe just getting neck to a normal natural cycle and causing me agony in the mean time. Great for identifying ovulation though. No pain, no gain!

Hm, in my case it seems I get the pains after the egg has been released, and therefore it would probably already be too late to dtd for conception. Unless you can figure out whether your pains come before or after ov by using OPKs, temping or ewcm, I'd say it is not a very reliable method to time intercourse, OP!

Different people feel different parts of the process, so one answer does not fit all.

I get pains from CD4 onwards (clearly the follicles growing rather than actual ovulation), ramping up towards ovulation when I don't really feel my ovaries but just get uncomfortably bloated.

It's best to have swimmers in there waiting for the egg to be released, so the best bet is to DTD before you feel the pains if what you are feeling is ovulation itself.

Thanks all, that's a big help. My pains tend to come just on one day for a few hours and they are quite sharp like a stitch, so I think is is connected to the actual point of ovulation.... BUT it's a great idea to double check with an ovulation kit, thank you! If it is, I will do my best to DHD as much as possible a couple of days before and ON the day haha Wink

We had two dc conceived by DTD on the day of experiencing ovulation pain. Worked out beautifully for us Grin

It differs for everyone what the pain represents. In my case, I get the pains just after a positive OPK and about a day before ovulation. Like metalhead says, it's best to check with OPKs when your pains present themselves. It could be too late if you wait for the pain. As you are very regular, you can predict in advance when you'll get the pain and then start dtd every other day a week or so before it and after it.

babyrose · 14/11/2013 16:58

I get around 5 days of ewcm, then 3days of opk then I start getting that ovulation pain.

Wonder if this is what I have just now, literally had sharp cramps in my stomach for the last 12 hours, a headache is also along for the ride!!

Came off the pill 3 weeks ago, had my withdrawal bleed, so hoping that this week is the week that AF turns up(or not if we happen to be lucky enough to conceive)!

ReginaFelange22 · 17/11/2013 11:20

On the back of that, done a hormone ovulation test this morning and have a very faint second line!!! 1st step of body doing as it's meant to so quickly!! Now I feel we need to DTD even more haha! Happy day today!

blamber · 17/11/2013 12:50

Regina, the second line needs to be as strong as the control line to indicate you're about to ovulate. Women usually have some lh in their system, so a faint line doesn't mean anything I'm afraid.

ReginaFelange22 · 17/11/2013 17:29

:( sad face lol!! Ah well, maybe later tonight!

WhiteWolf · 17/11/2013 18:13

A couple of months ago I had an appointment with my gynaecologist and had an ultrasound (looking for abnormalities) and I was told I was ovulating then. I felt the pain/cramps the day after that, so in my case it's post ovulation.

ReginaFelange22 · 18/11/2013 20:35

The line was strong yesterday evening and this morning! Happy days!!
