Help, my cycles are all over the place.

My cycles are now officially all over the place. I was due to have my last injection in August but decided to not have it and took the pill instead for 3 weeks. This disagreed with me completely and DH and I decided that I would come off it completely and we would ttc at the end of the year. So I came off the mini pill and had my first AF in mid October. On day 14 I had another AF. Depending on what cycle you go from, I am either on day 35 (1st AF) or day 21 2nd AF) and lo and behold, another AF!! Is this just my body readjusting after years of hormones or should I be looking into this more seriously?

We really want to start trying now but I'm scared is telling me that something isn't right!

Help!

What were your cycles like before you started injections? How long were you on injections for?

TBH it sounds like it's your body adjusting to being "hormone free" (for want of a better phrase!) I was on the pill for 11 years and had to stop before surgery two years ago - just never went back on it - but it did take 3-4 months for my cycles to get back to any form of regular cycle.

IIWY I'd see how your November and December cycles go, keep a strict diary of exactly what happens when (tummy pain, any bleeding - even if it's spotting) for the next couple of months and if is doesn't resolve by then see your GP. Obviously if you're worried then go sooner, but it's unlikely they are going to be able to do much until you've had a short "watch and wait" period.

The other thing that you could do (I know a lot of people swear by this) is tracking your temperature. I know very, very little about it, it may or may not help, but I'm sure there is someone on the board who could help/there will be threads dedicated to this?

It's been a very long time since I had normal periods. I was on the injection for 3 years then the implant for 3 years and then the injection again for 2 years. My periods always seemed to be quite regular but I didn't really keep track that much. I'm scared that these short cycles mean that I've damaged my fertility or something. None of my friends have ever talked about this and I don't know if it' only me!

Don't worry at all about damaging your fertility etc - it is very likely that your periods will just take a few weeks to "get back to normal". It is very, very common to have a few unusual periods when coming off contraception. It could even be that, if you had a bit of a bleed around day 14, that this was actually you ovulating.

You could always have a chat with your GP or Practice Nurse if you're worried (they will also know your past medical history etc so will be able to advise if there is anything specific that you should be aware of) but you're certainly not "unusual" in things being slightly irregular Smile
