Hi there,

I've been on the waiting list for a Lap and Dye following positive result for Chlamydia Antibodies.

My appointment is next Tuesday and I am looking for some 'real life' experience of what I may expect afterwards in terms of pain, bleeding, how much time off work will I need etc.

At the pre-assessment I was told that I would need 2 weeks off of work, but that seemed to be for general abdominal surgery, is it the same for Lap and Dye?

I would be grateful to hear about any experiences.

Hi Katniss,
I've had two lap and dyes, and both times was off work for two weeks. The operation itself doesn't take long, but you will be quite sore afterwards. The day after be prepared for the gas that they used to expand your abdomen to have gone up into your shoulders, it can be quite painful, but will dissipate over the next 24 hours.
The last lap I had I was feeling okay the day after the op, and so was lying in bed watching Bridesmaids until a funny bit came on and it hurt to laugh! Your tummy will be sore which is only to be expected but for me anyway it felt much better 2/3 days after the op. It's advisable to take things easy, especially because you will have stitches. By the time my stitches were out I was feeling almost back to normal.
Wrt bleeding, I can't really remember but think it may have been for a couple of weeks, or at least a little bit longer than a period lasts for.
Will there be someone at home to look after you the day of/day after the procedure? I was able to get up the day after, but it did take a while and was painful to move so might be nice to have someone there to bring you food and Brew
Good luck, I hope it goes well!

Thanks Shroom. Unfortunately I haven't got anyone with me the next day as my husband can't get the time off of work... Luckily I do have a toilet on the same floor as the kitchen and lounge so I could sit on the sofa (it's a recliner) and I will at least be close to things. I didn't realise it would be that painful to be honest... eek.

When did you start to drive again? I've made arrangements for the rest of the week for someone to take DD to school, but thought that by the following Monday (6 days after the procedure) I would be able to drive.

Do you think that will be doable?

Thanks for your post.

I'm sure you'll be up to getting food etc the day after, I just lolled around because I had PIL's waiting on me hand and foot Grin.
I'm pretty sure I was driving again around a week afterwards, you just have to be careful not to pull your stitches! In fact, I'm sure I was driving as I had my stitches taken out 10 days after and drove myself to the doctors.
I hope I didn't make it out to be too bad! It wasn't that awful that I would be bothered if I had to have another one... The worst bit for me was the medicine I had to take the night before to 'clear everything out' Blush Do you have to take that too? I'm in Belgium so it might be different. I gagged with every sip!

Oooh haven't heard of that... I'm not as worried about the op as I am about being sick after the option or the next day as I have a phobia of vomiting... I mentioned it at my preassessment and they have noted that I need lots of anti-sickness meds including a prescription to take home...

Hi. My lap was sore around the tummy for a few days and the gas pains were very uncomfy for about 3-4 days. This was compounded by having my lap just before Christmas and eating a full Christmas dinner had my lying on my back sipping peppermint cordial (which really helped dispel the gas). The GA left me a bit spacey too. Exactly one week after my lap I felt 100% normal with no pain. I could have dragged myself to work after three days but luckily didn't have to and would advise a week off. I also (and I'm joy saying this will in anyway apply to you) got shite news so needed time to get my head round it. I'm a rare case and often a lap helps people to get pregnant through tube flushing or identification of what the issue might be.

You will need;
Mint tea/peppermint cordial
San pro to catch the dye
Get the doctor to write down what they say (I forgot and had to get the cons back)
Comfy trousers (yoga pants are brill)
Dressing gown and fave socks
They made me take my new manicure off

Any questions just ask and good luck. It's not so bad Thanks

Oh and I had light period bleeding after my lap and then my period as per normal two weeks later.

Katnisscupcake · 13/11/2013 20:59

Thanks rabbit... I think I may be getting my period in the next day or so anyway so I guess the bleeding will just carry on longer than normal!

I don't have heavy periods so will a super towel be enough for the dye? I don't know how much they use Blush...

Mm it can be quite a lot and it gave me a blue bum! A super towel will be plenty though they mop a lot of it up for you in theatre (lovely!). Good luck, the anticipation is the worst bit.

Katnisscupcake · 14/11/2013 10:36

Thank you for the heads up about the blue bum rabbit Wink, sorry that the result wasn't great for you though. Hopefully things are a little better now.
