Trying to conceive and desperate for advice

We have been trying for a little while now and it just isn't happening. I have been pregnant twice before, both times I was on the pill (different kinds) and they were a surprise. I had an abortion the second time around as DS was only five months and was suffering from terrible PND. My rational head of course says that makes no difference but am of course feeling hysterical about it.

Does anyone have any tips about conceiving no matter how far fetched. I'm sure this thread has been done a thousand times before but I just feel like something isn't quite right and I am doing something wrong.

Hi PP, sorry you are feeling so frustrated !
Are you doing all the obvious things like charting / temping to make sure you time things right?

PP2291 · 05/11/2013 13:32

I haven't been charting as was worries about getting a bit obsessed. Have been trying to have sex on the days I am supposedly ovulating but I'm finding it all a bit confusing. How does it work? I can't really get my head round it

Clearblue fertility monitor is my best tip. Expensive but should identify your fertile window without you having to faff with charts. You can buy a second hand one and reset it. It should identify you between four and six days when you are most fertile. Try to have sex at least twice in that time, and ensure you have sex on the first peak day.

a cheaper option is to have sex three times a week so you always have some fresh sperm up there. However that is easier said than done if you have a small child!

I second the advice about having sex every other day / three times a week, from day 9 to day 19. If your cycles are regular you should be covering the key days. Sometimes it is just a numbers game. If you want more info about charting etc I'd recommend Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler.

And you're right: having had a termination has nothing to do with your current ttc. Give yourself permission to let go of that particular worry.

Please help!

My other half having low sperm count.. have been trying artificial insemination at home with no luck. When I insert the syringe, I feel that most of it come out instead of going in. can any one guide please. Is IUI done at a clinc more sucessfull ? We can not afford an IVF. Have a special baby from the first IVF through NHS.

I am also trying to conceive for the first time. We have been trying for 9 months, and have now moved in together so of course can try every day. But I have been reading information on net and they tell me that smocking and stress all reduce ones fertility. Does anyone have thoughts on this? And which foods / diets are best?

ChicMissLotty · 14/11/2013 12:41

I'm in the same position Tweetie.

I'm wondering if stress is putting a dampener on our efforts... anyone have previous experience with stress while TTC?

As far as diets go, I'm staying off alcohol (not like I've ever been a big drinker), keeping away from processed foods and trying to stick to a healthy balanced diet... haven't cut cow dairy out though yet, apparently this can help too? Any other tips would be very welcome!

Good luck to all who are TTC and have fun trying because otherwise the stress from that will drive you nutso!
