Just wondering cos i def want more babies and don't know wether to start trying soon (ds only 5 mth) or wait a bit. I've had one AF (last week)since having ds but it could be months before i have another or pg could have kickstarted my body.

So basically i'm wanting to know if second time around clomid was needed or u got pg agin without it.

Usually clomid is given for a maximum of six cycles at any one time. You would need to talk with your consultant at some length re your suitability to take this drug again. He may want to prescribe it again, he may not.

There are other treatments available (injectible drugs, surgery to name but two) so this may well be a course of action embarked on as well if clomid was not to work.

Clomid should be given with a degree of caution to PCOS patients as not all of them are suitable to take it. It can raise LH levels which can impede the chances of fertilisation. Also as many women with PCOS have an excess of LH to start with clomid is not always adviseable anyway.

Also if you take clomid it goes without saying you should be closely monitored whilst on it. You have no way of knowing otherwise whether it is effetive or not.

not me but I know three people who had PCOS, two took clomid for the first pregnancy and got pg naturally second time, within a year of having first baby. the third had IVF and then went on to have a baby naturally. It does seem that there is something that having a baby does! Good Luck.

Hi,took clomid for 3 cycles before conceived 1st dd,then took for 2 cycles before sadly having a miscarriage. Again back on clomid for 2nd dd. Then was very casual with contraception and conceived my 3rd wonderful surprise dd naturally. It can happen!! Good luck!

Thanks everyone, fingers crossed then x

Pernod - were u prescribed it second time? Just asking because i've till got some left from last time (8 cycles worth) a friend's told me just to take it but i think i'd be better to see doc first, what do u think?

Ds was conceived easily and without help, Dd was a clomid baby. Now am pg with #3 - a bit of a surprise as I didnt have clomid and assumed I couldnt conceive without! A happy surprise though!

Twiglett · 08/07/2006 20:01

Don't know if this counts but I was dx with PCOS before conceiving DS .. conceived DS with no issues (luckily)

about a year after having him I was scanned and told I had no PCOS .. supposedly your hormones realign with pg

(funnily 2nd time round did need clomid to conceive but because of a luteal-phase defect)

I don't know anything about Clomid/PCOS but a new friend I was talking to the other day told me she had conceived her twins after taking Clomid. Now a few years later and no Clomid she's expecting another one - surprise!

magnolia1 · 08/07/2006 20:39

Pernod · 08/07/2006 21:12

yes, lewsmummy I was prescribed clomid again, I think they like to keep on track of things e.g your follicur growth etc & offer early scans, good luck!!
