Anyone having fertility tests because of recurrent m/c's?

I really need to find someone going through the same as me.

Does anyone have any expereince or advice regarding all the tests they do and ops they carry out to repair the problem.

I have just had my HSG done and the results look a bit daunting.

What more should I expect?

Yes I have just gone through what seemed like millions of tests. What have you had done so far and what did they say?

My tests have found lots of small issues rather than one major thing. I have slight hypothyroidism, some intrauterine scarring, and possibly a slight circulatory problem. I'm now on aspirin and thyroid hormones, and recently had a hysteroscopy. If I am not pg this month I will be heading back to the fertility clinic (at Hammersmith Hospital) where I was seeing someone before unexpectedly falling pg in Jan (then miscarried in Feb).

I'm being checked for prgesterone deficiency and poss Luteal phase defect.
Thsi is due to recurring chemical pregs
I've also been put on clomid
But on checks and on paper, everything loks fine with me otherwise bizarrely

Thanks for the replies.

It helps to know I am not alone.

I was at Queen Charlottes and saw Prof Bennett and Prof Brosnens. I have been there for a year. They have had me on..

  1. Progesterone from day 14 to 21 of cycle.. Didn't work
  2. Progesterone, Heparin and 75mg aspirin from day 28 (BFP) Didn't work

I had a ERPC, 2nd one on May 12th. At this stage I had already made my mind up to get a referral from GP to St Marys to see Prof. Reagan. I am going there now. I changed as my last pg was a twin one and the two Profs were giving so much conflicting info. During scans lasting sometimes 1 hr they discovered I had two fibroids and a possible septum uterus.
I had a HSG on Thursday last week and got the results yesterday. It sounds daunting.... I will copy what it says.... It is difficult to understand.. Well it is for me.
Uterine cavity is abnormal. Left fundus and cornu appear elongated and markedly distorted. defects within this region raise the possibiltiy for scar tissue. The elongation raise the possibilities of large intramural fibroid. Both fallopian tubes fill thrroughout their length with bilateral free intraperitioneal spill.
I think it means...........
The cornu and fundus things refer to the ends of the fallopian tube. Scar tissue could be from the m/c and ERPC's I have had. I knew there were fibroids there. My fallopian tubes are clear as the fuid from HSG has gone straight thru into my abdo.
I have got an appointment with my GP tomorrow to have him explain it to me.
It also says that I would benefit from an MRI.

Sorry to go on so long.

Yes oinker your interpretation is about right. You need to discuss in detail with your doc, but basically you have a fibroid and possibly some scar tissue. The fundus is the main body of the uterus, and the cornu is basically the corner where the tube attaches.

The good news is that the tubes are open. Your doc may suggest surgery for both the fibroid and the scar tissue. Scarring inside the uterus is also known as Asherman's syndrome and you can look that up on the internet. There is also an online community called ashermans.org which may be helpful.

PS I also have a degree of Ashermans

oinker · 07/07/2006 10:24

Who are you seeing at hammersmith?

Do you have any kids?

Mr Trew
No, no kids

Nicola63

Thanks for the info on Ashermans.

I will ask my GP about it tonight.

oinker you might be a candidate for IUI perhaps?
It is good that your tubes are clear.
Hopefully there is good news in a diagnosis and a way forward for you treatment wise ASAP
How are you feeling about things today?

I went to the Gp yesterday who basically said that the scar tissue could be part/caused by fibroids. He said that should they decide to remove the fibroid they will also do the scar tissue. He reckons its not a hard op. as risky as a D&C. He also said that if St Marys drag their heels over ops etc then I should tell him. He will pester them to slot me in as an emergency as such, cos he feels the other hospital should have picked all this stuff up ages ago(like a year ago) and that time is against me. I am pleased to know that he is fighting my corner.
He also mentioned that fibroids are really common and operated on all the time.
He explained that the uterus is odd shaped there are loads of women who have this and they go on to have normal pregnancies.
He also said that the Profs would more than likely operate as all other tests have proved positive and they will keep going. Anything that they beleive could be a possible cause for m/c will be treated.

What I have is not that uncommon.

I am feeling a bit more reassured now.

Thanks for all the help. I have researched loads in the past of couple of days.
