Has anyone whose periods are extremely regular, ever had a late period for any reason other than pregnancy? Am panicking here...

My periods are incredibly regular - perfect four week cycle, almost to the minute.

So am rather panicky to be one and a half days late...

I have children already but my family is finished and I really really do not want any more.

I don't feel pregnant but then I know I didn't really have pregnancy symptoms at such an early stage when I was pregnant.

Does anyone have any comforting stories???

I was in exactly the same situation 2 months ago. I was 5 days late in the end with the finale happening in an Italian Restaurant - oh how I wanted to run from the toilet and announce to the WHOLE restaurant that I wasn't preganant. Like you I was so regular - could even time am or pm! Good luck - have you been brave enough to do a pg test yet?

foxinsocks · 05/07/2006 20:29

do a test

I am also super regular but every now and then, a few extra days sneak in!

heroesjustforoneday · 05/07/2006 20:31

I don't have one in the house atm - well I do but it is past its sell-by date, lol! (As am I...)

Is this the way the menopause starts, by any chance? I am quite old - over 40 anyway!

I had several 1-2 days late periods when TTC BabyDragon but wasn't pregnant.

DevilsAdvocado · 05/07/2006 20:32

Mine has been late 4 times. 2 of those times were due to pregnancy and the other 2 times I have no idea what was wrong

SoupDragon · 05/07/2006 20:32

You might as well do the out-of-date test. What else are you going to do with it?

expatinscotland · 05/07/2006 20:33

Me!

Just happened to me last week.

Used to be every four weeks to the day - Tuesday.

I was over one week late but I knew I wasn't pregnant.

Thankfully.

heroesjustforoneday · 05/07/2006 20:37

True about the out of date test, I suppose I might as well do it! Will have to try and sneak into the loo with it tomorrow morning.

Now you mention it, I do seem to recall that when I was actually ttc-ing, having a slightly irregular period once or twice. But I just don't recall it EVER happening otherwise.

We were using protection but I know we had sex several times around what would be most fertile time. AAaaaarrrrggghhh!!

Yep, I'm just like you, but have on the odd occassion been a couple of days late - always panicked like mad, but it's been ok - no more babies.

heroesjustforoneday · 05/07/2006 20:54

good stuff, glassofwine. Which is just what I'm drinking now, whilst wondering whether or not it's a bad idea!

Just one won't hurt. When I found out I was pg the first time, my reaction was to drink a large glass of wine and smoke a cigarette (my last).

yep - spot on before ds, now can be out by a couple of days - freaks me cos I always think I am and test immediately ..... never am...

HeroesJustForOneDay · 05/07/2006 21:29

You are all comforting me greatly here. kama, I have had quite a stressful time and also had a couple of days when I didn't really eat much, so I guess that might have contributed...

Did you do the out of date test?

HeroesJustForOneDay · 06/07/2006 12:28

No, I bottled it. Still no period. Spent walk to work this morning planning how I would tell my boss. Am a great one for jumping the gun, me!

I was 5 day late sometime last year when I used to have periods that ran like clockwork, alway 28 days, never early , never late. There was the teeny weeniest chance I could have been PG but it really was minisule.

I did about 5 tests, all were -Ve.
It was a huge suprise to be late and I was lamost convinced I was PG because it was never late.
5 days after I was due it arrived.

One word of warning I will say though....I'm almost 14 weeks PG now because since the 5days late period I'd had an early or late late period occasionally, the time I ovulated changed too, i never really know when it would arrive, it was regualar 80% of the time but ceryainly not always, and it all changed since that late period....I'm not sure why but I'm pretty sure I fell PG this time because it all changed so much, I used to know the signs, could tell when we could or couldn't use contraception but all the changes caught me out...and hey presto number 4 is well on its way!!

HeroesJustForOneDay · 06/07/2006 12:57

I can't stop thinking about this. I'm going to feel so silly when my period does eventually arrive...

I did the out of date pg test this morning and it was negative. Still no period though - wtf is going on??

expatinscotland · 07/07/2006 14:48

I had this happen to me just last week, hero. Me stressing myself out did NOT help.

I was about 8 days late but NOT pregnant - thankfully.

HeroesJustForOneDay · 07/07/2006 14:56

Now that I've done a test and it was negative, I am, honestly, not stressing about it - just curious to know what's going on.

Had a chat with my yoga teacher last night and she thinks it's possible, given some other symptoms I have, that I might be pre-menopausal . So have just been out and spent lots of money on nice underwear in Agent Provocateur, just in case my time is running out .

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 07/07/2006 15:06

Wait, do you want more kids?

Thought you said you didn't.

Personally, I'll be hitting Agent Provacateur after menopause, b/c not having to worry about periods or contraception is going to rev up my sex life!

If you are over 40, then it is possible it's pre-menopause.

HeroesJustForOneDay · 07/07/2006 23:02

Nooooooo, no more kids, just more sex !

Naughtynoonoo · 07/07/2006 23:04

have you had the coil fitted?

HeroesJustForOneDay · 07/07/2006 23:09

No, DH using condoms.
