TTC....can an ERPC affect your chances?

Hello, wonder whether anyone has any words of wisdom for me.....

I got pregnant last year pretty much the minute we started trying but sadly I suffered a miscarriage at 11 weeks and ended up having an ERPC operation.

We started trying again in April and 7 months down the line, still no pregnancy! Is there a chance that an ERPC might have affected my fertility? I can't understand how it could have happened so quickly last time when we were hardly trying and it's proving so tricky now!

Also, is this baby boom doing anyone's head in?! There are bumps everywhere I turn! :-(

Technically, an ERPC can occasionally lead to a condition called Asherman's that can affect fertility, but this is fairly rare. However, I think the pattern you describe (fast conception, mc, no bfp for a long while) is common. Quite a lot of the long termers on here fit it. No one seems to have been offered any explanation.

I think I'm in that camp - accidental chem preg (I think - I didn't test but something odd happened) a few months before we started to properly ttc, and then nada.

Sorry to hear of your loss. As eurochick says its possible you have something called Ashermans Syndrome which is scarring in the womb which can be caused by an ERPC. Have your periods changed at all since the ERPC? Lighter ? Shorter? It might be worth having a look at www.ashermans.org for more info.

They're definately lighter than they used to be, but I had just put that down to a change in my body- I know that pregnancies can affect things like that. Slightly concerned about the prospect of Asherman's syndrome :-/ hadn't heard of it before.

Hi Hevava,

I had something similar (in 2009). I had an erpc on 1st April for a mmc, was pregnant first month of trying. Finally got another bfp in September and mc that one as well. Finally got a bfp in February 2010 and my 3yo is asleep upstairs now Smile

I hope that helps, that someone else has been through similar, and gives you a bit of hope.

Good luck,
Koko

I conceived seven weeks after my ERPC. Dd is six months old now. Asherman's syndrome is rare, op. Try not to worry.

It took me 8 months to get a bfp after an erpc. Anything under a year is considered normal although it is of course hard when you are going through it.

if you are having normal periods you can probably be fairly sure you don't have ashermans. If they are much lighter and you know you are ovulating then i would get it checked out for your peace of mind.

It took us only 5 cycles to get pregnant last year. Unfortunately we had a MMC and an ERPC. 12 cycles later we're still trying. I don't think it's anything to do with the ERPC. Every month is the same lottery unfortunately. The GP has sent me for a scan which was normal and I'm having blood tests and my hubby a sperm test this month.
It's hard, especially after miscarriage, but you're not alone. Good luck
