Has anyone got pregnant very quickly after giving birth?

My question is; how quickly did you get pregnant and how did you know? If your periods haven't started yet, how do you know if you've missed one?! And do pregnancy tests work when you're still BF'ing a 4mnth old?

I didn't get pregnant really quickly, dd1 was 8/9 months but I never got af as was breast feeding, I took a test as I'd stoped bf completely and by 5/6 wks later felt should have started by then and it was positive so yes tests would work if you were

awakemysoull · 26/10/2013 11:29

I fell pregnant 4 weeks after having dd2. I wasn't breastfeeding though but 7 weeks after having dd2 I had no period and felt sick so I took a pregnancy test. It was positive so I took another 3 just to be sure. I know that pregnancy hormone levels can still be floating around a few weeks after the birth - I may be wrong with that though.

Sorry I don't even think I'm being helpful

My mum fell pregnant with me about 8 weeks after she had given birth to my sister - she was also was breast feeding at the time.

NationMcKinley · 26/10/2013 13:48

My sister in law was pregnant three weeks after having her second Shock did not realise the implications of this until I had my first. She had a natural delivery with the second and stitches. She's a braver madder woman than me! Grin

This isn't entirely unplanned, but now it's. a possibility I realise I haven't thought through the practicalities of finding out. It'll be #3 so I am aware that I'm utterly bonkers and will have no one to blame but myself when I've been pregnant and breastfeeding for 3 years straight going to have my hands full...

My sil fell pregnant 8 weeks after giving birth, totally planned. She's my heroine, amazing woman.

Hope everything is ok OP?

Yes, 4 months after the first.

mawinter · 26/10/2013 20:02

Ugh, we need a way to edit. I hit enter too quickly. That should have read: Yes, 4 months after the first. However I was already a little over 1 month along when I found out.

TippiShagpile · 26/10/2013 20:04

Yes, fell pg 3 - 4 months after ds1 was born.

MamaPingu · 26/10/2013 20:05

BusyCee, hope you don't mind me asking but you don't live in the Barnsley area do you?

NationMcKinley · 26/10/2013 22:52

Gah! I've just read my post about my DSIL and it sounds like I think she's mad to have 3 close together which would be pot and kettle as that's what I have after having DS1 and a big 2nd degree tear I decided she must have a Fanjo of Steel to be DTD so quickly! 3 is fab, OP Grin

BikeRunSki · 26/10/2013 23:00

There are sisters 10 months apart at nursery with dd.

BusyCee · 27/10/2013 00:24

Mama Pingu - no, I'm all the way South East.

Thanks for the replies. We're aiming for 3. DS2 is 4 months and I thought as I'm already 37, and have mc'd before both boys, and am already a bit sleep deprived we may as well crack on with DC3. Anyhoo, have felt a bit suspect for the last couple of days and just wondering if we're already on the boil. Wasn't sure if POAS would do any good as I'm still BF'ing.

Obvs I've felt better since I posted, so who knows. Ill give it a couple of days and see how I feel before allowing OH anywhere near me again

POAS at 14 days after time you think you may have conceived. Afaik, a test should be reliable.

I know two families with 12-13 month gaps between DC (and one of those was exclusively bfing) so yes it's possible. They usually recommend 6 months before trying, as much to ensure you're fully recovered and are likely to have made up any nutritional gaps. But it can all work out just fine at even a very short interval, so I hope you get the answer you want.
