Help with blood test results for poss. PCOS

I just got a print-out of the blood test I had done for possible PCOS and it's all classed as normal. I had them done on CD4 (AF started properly on Friday, so had to do it Monday). If blood tests are normal, can someone still have PCOS and how would they diagnose this? Or what other causes of irregular cycles might there be (I am hypothyroid but it's under control, recently checked).

They tested:
Testosterone 1.3 nmol/L (0.22-2.90) (I thought this would be higher, as I have acne and hair loss)
LH 4.8 u/L (2-13 U/L)
FSH 5.8 u/L (4-13 U/L)
Prolactin normal too

So the LH-FSH ration is < 1:1, but then I read that it's not a good indication of PCOS anyway.

What do you think the GP might do next?

Many thanks!

I think the GP should refer you on to either a consultant gynae and or an endocrinologist for further evaluation. You need a diagnosis first and foremost.

Thyroid UKs website is very good and non woo based if you want to read that as well www.thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/index.html

An internal ultrasound scan should be done to see if the ovaries are infact polycystic. Also the day 2 tests should be redone.

Hi blamber

I am due to have similar tests. We are doing them now, as a snapshot, to sort of get things on the record as my Dr doesn't have my notes from my previous practice. What she said was that even if things come back normal, it doesn't mean they wouldn't investigate further if there were still problems, so I think you should see if they can refer you or do tests further in your cycle for ovulation, and maybe repeat the day 2 test on your next cycle.

Thanks! The GP said the tests don't need repeating and if my progesterone is ok he will not refer me until I have been ttc for a year! He wouldn't do a scan either.

How long have you been ttc? For me it's been 10 months, so it's almost at the limit anyway. Not sure if you would be able to switch Dr if yours is not being as responsive as you'd like.

Not long after I posted my Dr rang to say that actually she wants me to wait and have the tests just after I get my period. If I don't get one, then we'll do them anyway. So I just have to wait now, but at least it's only for a few weeks.

Hi Nerdybird, it's been 7 months for me. I already switched doctors because the first one didn't want to do anything yet.
