Not ovulating, still BF and feeling miserable - any advice?

Hello ladies

Just got back from the Dr's with my blood test reports. I am not ovulating . Dr says to repeat the day 21 test next week, and if still not ovulating then step 1 is to give up BF (DD is 15 months) and then wait 3 months. If still not ovulating, then step 2 is Clomid.

Am feeling very down as I love BF and don't really want to give up. I am also a bit scared of Clomid - what's it like being on it? What are the side effects? I know that I am not actually ancient (37 in Sept) but I worry that my fertitily is declining anyway and so I may never be lucky enough to get a sibling for DD.

Sorry this has turned into a bit of a self pitying ramble, but I am at work and can't ring a friend in RL to offload.

How often are you bf, mrspumpkin? Is there scope for cutting down rather than stopping altogether? And how long are your cycles at the moment?

I have no advice but can sympathise lots. I gave up bf a couple of months ago, just before dd turned 1. I really didn't want to but had been hoping to start ttc #2 since Xmas and my periods were obviously not going to return. I firstly cut night feeds, then got it down to 2 feeds a day, which in all honesty were for me, not her. Finally it dwindles to a feed at night every day or two (we were on holiday at this point and didn't stop as I knew I'd need it for the flight home). I got my period the day we flew home, so technically while still feeding. I have had one since, a cycle of 35 days, but don't know if I have ov or not.
Sorry if tmi but I found in the 3 weeks or so leading up to af I had huge amounts of cm/discharge. Mentioned this to my SIL who also recently had baby and she too got this in the weeks leading up to af, so that may be a sign to look out for that things are starting to happen.
Good luck!

Agree with LeahE - if you're bfeeding on demand, you could perhaps try to structure her feeds a bit so you're not feeding her so often?

Thanks ladies.

I am not feeding that often as it is . DD has a BF at night before going to sleep and a brief feed in the morning. I seldom need to feed her in the day (or the night) as she has cow's milk or water instead. I BF exclusively til she was 7 months and didn't get AF until she was 9 months old. I have noticed AF not really been right since then. My cycle is every 28-29 days, but has been quite light (almost only panty liner light - sorry for TMI). I thought I had better get checked out andjust as well. I said to DH that there was no point bonking for Britain if there was no egg in the offing and he looked rather hurt....
