Follicles?

Hello,

Hoping someone might be able to explain something to me in simple terms.

I recently had a miscarriageHmm. As part of a routine scan to check that all the pregnancy sac had passed the doctor said she was 'just going to check my ovaries'. I was quite distressed at the time and asked her if she was able to see if I had eggs left (I'm 35). She said she couldn't tell with the scan but that she could see I had 'follicles'. She said it in a reassuring way but I didn't like to ask what this meant.

Can anyone explain what this might mean for my future fertility?

Follicles hold the ripening eggs ready to release if I remember correctly. It's a good thing. Sorry I can't explain it better

Every cycle your ovaries produce a number of follicles containing un-ripe eggs. As the cycle progresses 1 follicle will become dominant and continue to grow larger as the others shrink back. Ovulation occurs when the follicle ruptures and releases the egg.
