secondary infertility.

I did wonder about posting this on the infertility board but felt it was a bit insensitive as i have 2 children.
I have been ttc for over a year now, came off mirena 15 months ago and have not had a period since.
Dr and gyne have diagnosed pcos however the scan shows no cysts on ovaries but blood work says i have it.
Tried provera 10mg for 3 months to try and induce a period but it didn't work.
Gp and gyne suggested clomid a few months ago but had to wait on provera, however nhs guidelines have changed in the last few weeks and i am no longer entitled to it on the nhs.
Gp has emailed gyne back as there are a couple more things she thinks i could try that are free on the nhs so just waiting on a phone call.

Its the waiting i cannot stand, all i have done for over a year is wait whilst all my friends have suddenly got pregnant.
it has been 9 years since i was pregnant, i was told after i had cervical cancer i may have trouble staying pregnant due to the amount of cervix that has been taken away but my wonderful gp reassured me that isn't the case which is what gave me the push into ttc no3.

Im not entirely sure the point of this post, guess i just wanted to write it all down and see if anyone else has been in the same position as me.

Hi sorry to hear. Yes sort of. DS is 51/2. Had two chemical pregnancies when first ttc no.2. Then life circs got in way.

Have been trying again for a couple of years. Had laporoscopy for endo earlier this year. Not getting anywhere.

Feel so alone, even from DH. Haven't been back to gp (new one, moved in the summer).

Sorry to hear about your cervical cancer. Have you tried zita west or Chinese herbs or any if those things.. Reflexology, acupuncture ..? I'm sure your doctor wouldn't get your hopes up if not true

orangemoon · 01/10/2013 18:09

Hi pickofthepops, thanks for your reply,my friend has offered me reflexology and has also suggested acupuncture.
It's just all the waiting and all my other friends announcing their pregnancies, most of them don't know I'm ttc so it's not like they that even though I'm really happy for them I get so jealous when I hear about it.

The clomid was definitely an option a few weeks ago but the nhs guidelines have changed in that time so I am sort of stuck in limbo at the moment.

Would definitely take up reflexology. Any other dietary changes which might kickstart things? How about drinking more water?

Hi, any chance you could go private for clomid? Should just be one consultation and the prescription charge if you got copies of all NHS results?

I have secondary infertility, well took 8 yrs to conceive child one and now in 2nd yr of ttc2 and no NHS funding for treatments once have one child.

Stillhopingstillhere · 02/10/2013 15:23

We have secondary infertility. Conceived dc1 the first cycle. Been ttc dc2 for over 12 months.

I had a feeling something was wrong (actually I have a feeling we won't have anymore children) so got checked out after 3 months. All fine with me but dh's sperm analysis was AWFUL and has been consistently awful. Heaven knows how we got pregnant first time around. The count is high but they're all misshapen and don't swim!

We are now having ivf with icsi next month. The sperm are too poor even for normal ivf. I cannot get my head round am easy natural conception to now needing ivf with icsi.
I am highly doubtful it will work because of my gut feeling, in fact as soon as I had ds I said to dh, that's it, there won't be any more. However dh wants to give it a go so we are, at great physical, mental and financial expense.

Good luck, it's depressing I know.

Thank you hoop and highhope, my gp mentioned private and said it should be no more than £600 as the gyne would want to do ultrasound scans and blood tests with clomid, think we will get Christmas out the way before going down the private route.

Just waiting on phone call from gp as to where I go from here, she has mentioned metformin as I have pcos but she is also concerned that I have not had a period in over a year whilst ttc and almost 9 years in total thanks to the implant and mirena coil, and the fact the provera didn't induce one either so she thinks there is more than just pcos going on.

Does anyone know if this is a blanket no funding for clomid if you already have a child?

HoopHopes · 03/10/2013 16:24

You would need to check your area but certainly no free NHS fertility treatment if have a child is usual rule.
